I really wanted to like this hotel - the decor is ...

I really wanted to like this hotel - the decor is nice and the bed was really comfy. The facilities in my room were good (although the room was smaller than I'd expected - and quite dark). However:

- No response when I called for room service. Someone did eventually phone me back, but it took a while. The hotel really wasn't busy so I'm not sure what caused the delay.
- When my order arrived it was cold.
- It took almost a week for the pre-approved payment to come back into my bank account.
- The restaurant staff were delightful but I couldn't finish my breakfast - it was unpalatable.
- The gym equipment could do with a service!

Overall, the staff were good but as I'd chosen The Chester as a wee treat while I was away from home, I was pretty disappointed with my stay.
