We appointed Gordons Property Lawyers to undertake...

We appointed Gordons Property Lawyers to undertake what I thought was a fairly basic straightforward remortgage and add my wife to the property. I tried to make the process as fast as possible by emailing and posting required documents to them either on the same day requested or within three days.
The whole process felt as if Gordons were not actually representing me or had my interest at the forefront. I felt like I was doing half the work.
There were a number of blunders made by Gordons Property Lawyers.
1. On their own online progress timeline, about a quarter of the way through conveyancing process, it states that we will call to talk you through your case. We will also explain the costs involved This did not happen. In actual fact, unless I called them, they never called me.

2. They deducted money from my surplus funds to pay a year worth of service charge, some of which I had already paid. I called up to explain that I have already paid some of the service charge and the rest is paid by direct debit. I was basically then told that they assumed all of the service charge must be paid before completion, I then demanded that they contact my property management company. The management company then emailed to say this is not the case and the money was then refunded.

3. I specifically explained to Gordons that I m remortgaging to buy a new build which has terms that stipulate I must exchange within 28 days. I then kept chasing them to make sure that they had everything they needed to do so. I was told they did, however they still missed the deadline. This has had a knock on effect and caused myself and my wife a lot of stress and grief.

4. On several occasions when I called GPL for an update, I was told they were waiting for documents from me. This was just basic lies and laziness as after a few moments of me telling the person on the phone that those documents had already been sent, they would confirm that they actually do have the documents. This was very frustrating as it felt like they simply couldn t be bothered to even update my file.
