The central Sabanc Merkez Camii Mosque is located on the bank of the Sihan River in the center of the Turkish city of Adana, and although it is not a historical or archaeological building but it has great visit rates by local and foreign tourists, but rather is one of the largest mosques in Turkey and even in the east Central, it is a crown that adorns the city of Adana with its privileged location, massive construction, and high minarets seen from kilometers away from the city.
In 1988, precisely on December 13, the foundation stone of the mosque was laid by ceremonies by officials of the Turkish state, and the ownership of the land was transferred from the municipality of Adana to the endowment of the Turkish religion. The design of the mosque is the backdrop of architect Naguib Denich.
The people of the city of Adana contributed to collecting donations and material aid and adding them to the state budget allocated for building the mosque, until it reached 50 percent, while the rest was completed by the Sabanji family in 1996, and the name of the mosque was changed from the central mosque to the central Sabanji mosque.
On December 18, 1998, the mosque was opened by then President of the Republic Suleiman Demirel and Turkish businessman Saqib Sabanji.
The mosque contains 5 domes, the main dome is 32 meters in diameter and 54 meters above the ground and is the largest dome in Turkey, as for its six minarets, it was designed to resemble the six minarets of Sultan Ahmed Mosque, while the inner sanctuary was designed to resemble the Selimiye Mosque.
The total area of the mosque is 6600 square meters, and the mosque has 6 minarets, 4 of which are centered on the body of the mosque with a height of 99 meters and two separate ones with a height of 75 meters, and the area of the mosque with minarets is 6600 square meters, and the mosque can accommodate 20,000 thousand people.
The Qur'anic verses and verses written on the walls of the mosque are designed by calligrapher Hussein Kutlu.
You can see Surat al-Kursi written on a section of the main dome wall, as verses 35, 36, 37 and 38 of Surat al-Nur are written on the wall of the southern front of the mosque. The walls of the mosque are decorated from the inside with the words of His Majesty, the name of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and Surat Al-Fatihah, as well as the most beautiful names of God.
The interior of the mosque is also decorated with tiles made in the Turkish city of Iznik, while the reliefs and motifs on the tiles are designed by the inscription Samih Arch, and the designs of the main mosque door, the minbar and the mihrab that resemble the classic Ottoman style are designed by the literal Nihad Kartal. The minarets are made of marble bricks mixed with the remains of the elephant's teeth.
As for the internal and external lighting of the mosque, operating systems and audio, they are all produced by the German company Philips, and the radio is made by the Turkish company Aselsan and placed in the top of the minaret with an elevator to send signals to a circle of 60 km, meaning that the mosque sermon reaches 275 universities In and around the city.
Outside the mosque s campus in the western section, there is a large public library to serve researchers and the general public, and there is also a water path used on Eid to distribute delicious honey syrup.
