Sakana was previously one of our favorite sushi places, but last month we had a second terrible experience that has since changed our feelings toward them.

The restaurant itself is not lacking in decor or anything, it's the service. The second to last time we went, it was for my birthday. We arrived to a moderately busy restaurant, were seated fairly quickly, and subsequently forgotten about. Our waitress needed some significant flagging down to finally take our drink orders, then promptly forgot them and came back twice to get them again. We had been here during much busier services and never been neglected like this. We ordered the teppanyaki and LITERALLY had to tell the guy what to do, it was embarrassing. I spoke to the manager after several more blunders on the part of the wait staff, then seriously considered whether we should return again, ever.

The last straw was even worse. We got there just as they opened, waited 20 minutes to be seated (ridiculous), then couldn't even eat the food that was prepared (I use the word loosely). Half of each of my scallops stuck to the grill since the cook apparently turned the heat to the "burning sun" setting then decided he needed no oil or butter. The steaks were basically hamburger when he finished with them, and he never said a word after he went over our orders.

The most embarrassing part was, as we shared the table with another couple who had never been here, we spent the first 25 minutes saying how GREAT this place is (was) and how much they would enjoy their first experience at Sakana. The only real thing we got to eat that night were our own words.

I'll never go to or recommend Sakana Sushi again.
