Edit: Been a student since 2016.curriculums are world class and kept current and the etutor and academic support is great; Examination is extremely efficient and professionally managed. 5+ stars! My experience the past 4 years are otherwise good and I am a happy student. Fees are competitive for a distance learning provider and still affordable with very reasonable terms. And I am happy that we didnt suffer disruption (apart from staff strikes) from political interference at my local campus. Kudos to my fellow students who ignored some political trouble makers trying to recruit for disruptive and non productive protest behaviours which damage our resources and infrastructure, while there are better and efficient student channels to follow to negotiate better terms for us as students. there are a few things where UNISA can really do better. On campus student support can still do better, but mostly friendly and helpful.
Work more efficiently. Ask questions up front so we can go to the correct division immediately, and not waste time in queue. I give 3 stars because some staff are incompetent in payments and dont know how to work a POS card machine or and let the batteries run down so the machine power down in the middle of an authorised transaction. Working with the student portal get 3 stars because the servers dont have capacity on deadline submission days. You can really improve your IT issues, since a 99.9% uptime portal is required as our student learning backbone! 3 stars for the public website re-register and new registration and applications. the website is not user friendly enough for the spoonfed school leavers to find their way around without help from unofficial social media channels or mommy intervention. Lack of general communication to orientate newbies and teach them to read their screen, so they can find their way around get 1 star resulting in too many spoonfed babies who cannot adult yet, dragging mommy onto campus to come and sort the incompetent admin bunch out, and disrupt other students because they didn't receive their books yet or to complain the phone doesnt get answered. . Everything is there, provided online for students. Now the one apple rotting the whole cart of fruit: all the staff at headoffice switchboard. Please do everyone a favor and retrench all of them as redundant and replace them with a single friendly AI robot!
