Chris Gilk Review of The Norfolk Royale Hotel
Clean hotel room with exceptional, friendly staff ...
Clean hotel room with exceptional, friendly staff in the restaurant & bar. Seemed unprofessional at times in Reception, feeling ignored & having personal conversations amongst themselves despite us standing there checking in. Not a good impression. Deluxe room 8 was clean & nice but very worn, uncomfortable lumpy mattresses that clunked & clonked with every bit of movement. Threadbare & dirty carpet & trolley with trays in corridor to room which was very off putting. Appreciate it s an old listed building and air conditioning is not a possibility, but room & restaurant were very hot & stuffy. Got a fan from reception for room but the restaurant needs fans as very uncomfortable when eating & we tended to rush to leave for some air! The Sunday Carvery was excellent & absolutely delicious! Buffet breakfast was average & we did expect a better standard for a four star hotel & in reflection of the price for our stay. As we felt it was no different to the Travelodge or similar establishments buffet breakfast.
On checking out, the male receptionist asked if we were happy with our stay & we said yes it was ok, except for the old uncomfortable beds, which prevented us from having a good sleep. He then ignored our response! Why ask if not interested in hearing our answer? He could have just said, sorry to hear that & we will look into that, even if it wasn t mean t!
We wouldn t return to stay again as there are far better standard of hotels in Bournemouth for the same price or below. When paying good money, expect a good quality bed at least!
However, we would return for the carvery!
