The owner of this establishment is well known in Colorado as being very eccentric. While I applaud his dedication to rescuing these animals I wonder why did he spend the money building a walkway if he's openly hostile to people visiting? No it's not a zoo, but why open it to the public and charge huge fees? We visited in the summer and frankly the place is depressing and NOT a place for kids or really any visitors. The animals are in these fenced-off pens with dead grass and on the prairie there is very little shade that offers refuge in the scorching summer sun. So I wonder what quality of life do these animals even have? The animals looked dejected and just laid there the entire time. I think the location is terrible as there needs to be more trees. There is nothing for people so you walk in the intense sun for miles to maybe get a peek at a tired animal. The owner should shut down having visitors and just get donations from animal lovers. Oh, and quit sending out an expensive magazine/catalog every few months. I'm sure that is not cheap. Save that money to pay for the refuge.
