We are very disappointed. Unprofessional. Incompetent. Very poor communication: unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls, condescension when we ask for clarification. Even our realtor could not elicit a response. I am a doctor. We had to involve our CPA and CFP just to appease their many unreasonable requests. Five business days prior to their scheduled close date they actually asked me, the customer, to establish a personal online account with the IRS to provide them with transcripts because they were not able to obtain them in a timely manner themselves. This, after we provided complete copies of the 3 years of tax returns several months earlier. They blamed each other for the errors and the delays. We had conditional approval 4 months earlier. We were responsive, cooperative, and accommodating every step of the way often reaching out to see if they needed any additional documentation (no response). Because of their time mismanagement, our closing was postponed, without our consent, and with only a 24 hour notice. Calls to upper management to discuss the situation went unanswered. Everything could have easily been sorted out weeks earlier as they had scheduled the closing date with ample time to complete the application process comfortably. Very disheartening for our family, and hence, we are motivated to leave this review.

Both our CPA and CFP were befuddled at this level of harassment as we clearly qualified with an 832 credit rating and more than ample cash (well over the 20% down), large retirement funds, and other real estate assets. The day after their scheduled closing, they literally took issue with a $41.00 credit card balance and required us to provide bank statements and documentation to prove that it had been paid off. We had zero debt: our home was paid off years ago as well as our 3 cars. Inexplicably, a total of $41.00 on a credit card had disqualified us for this mortgage. Somehow we were eventually approved after many stressful days, and multiple disruptions to our family. The closing was then rescheduled for the following week, and we proceeded to reschedule our moving and delivery arrangements.

This is our fourth home purchase. We have had many unproblematic mortgage accounts and banking relationships for well over two decades both personal and business. We ve never had an experience anywhere near this distressful. Clearly these people are not interested in customer service. The only reason we chose to use this company was the closing cost incentives proposed by Richmond American Homes at the time of the initial contract.

Sorry, we cannot in good conscience recommend this company.

Addendum: It is now 2 days after the close and the title company has found an error in the HomeAmerican Mortgage paperwork. I have now been instructed to sign post-closing documents to remedy their error so Richmond can keep an additional $90.00.
