I had the unpleasant experience staying at Catholic Charities due to illness and being unable to hold a job. The organization does a good job taking men off the streets and giving them the opportunity to clean themselves up and rest (sleep) without the fear of being beaten up or robbed. In reality there are still occurences of that in the dorms but they are not frequent. Security is ok and headed by Eric Meyers who must own stock or something. Because the turn over in management and personnel overall is at the least rampant. The daily free community meal is ok but never enough. Alot of people depend on that one meal for the whole day. The food bank is pretty good they give you 10lbs of canned goods 10lbs of produce bread and sweets. Sometimes alittle more if available. But only once a month. Its a shoot or miss. The USDA give aways to qualified individuals are greatly appreciated. What troubles me about Chatholic Charities are the personnel and staff. These people are not happy or even upbeat about working there or being there. WHY! To be imvolved with helping people better their situation should bring self satisfaction and self esteem but you just never see it! In reality its a sad place of broken dreams and lives. Some people use it as a spring board to better themselves. But unfortunatly very few make it! Shelters are a black eye in any city or community but its a much needed thing. My high rating is mainly because we sorely need them. WITH MUCH RESPECT AND HUMILITY. eric.
