Jennah Haase Review of Circuit of the Americas
Circuit of the Americas is a complete JOKE. Althou...
Circuit of the Americas is a complete JOKE. Although the abnormal, heavy rains did indeed make things more difficult, there is absolutely NO excuse for the level of incompetence shown by the management of this venue. Furthermore this is a purpose-built Formula 1 track that touts itself as a "world class venue". Nothing could be further from the truth. There are no facilities to escape the elements (rain or sun), no permanent restroom facilities except under the main grandstand ($$$$), and the porta-potties that were available typically lacked toilet paper and sat in a mud puddle. This also means nowhere to wash hands, change a diaper, etc. and were certainly not handicap accessible. The rest of the stands are bleachers, like at a county fairground or class C high school football field and the "buildings" shown on their map are glorified tents. Food vendors were WAY overpriced even for an F1 or other sporting event, could only be accessed by walking through mud, and were running out of food halfway through the event. The track itself is very nice and the race was good but was completely overshadowed by the horrible venue. Once past the ticket-takers we didn't see any other COTA staff other than first aid at their station. Not a single person to give directions, answer questions, pick up trash, empty trash, or in any other way assist the patrons...NO ONE! We paid $100 for a 45 minute shuttle ride from our downtown parking because there was no parking at the track (again...world-class venue). We tried to leave about an hour before the event was over but ended up waiting in the shuttle bus line for two hours in a dark parking lot (most of the lights were off) to be loaded on a shuttle that left with 13 EMPTY SEATS!! And again there was no one to direct people or answer questions, no "coral fence" to direct the line or prevent line-jumpers, and they were only loading one shuttle at a time. Cars and buses were driving through the line of people...not across the line, THROUGH IT! Returning home, I read past reviews of COTA and found that this experience really had nothing to do with the rain as others have had similar things to say in years past and about other events held there. Today I read an article in the news about how COTA lost so much money on this event blaming the rain and the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix and how their attendance to the USGP has been declining every year. Well DUH! We will never attend another event at COTA and hope to spread the word so that no one else has to go through what thousands of us did this past weekend. We're already making plans to attend F1 in Mexico next year.
