What a hidden gem of a course. If you are into course design you see the Chandler Egan influence and similarities to other courses in the region. The course was in great shape today. The greens are among the best I ve played in the Portland area. The fairways are not generous but fair - you need accuracy off the tees, and can t just bomb it. The fairways are tree lined but the trees seem to be spread out enough to increase playability. Similarly the underbrush is kept down between the trees, also increasing playability (this part is reminiscent of Waverly). There was rain today and that may have made the greens more receptive than usual. But for today the greens were just superb - really quite fast, receptive to approach shots and sloped / fast enough to require skill with irons and wedges to stay below the hole.

The course had elements that reminded me of Royal Oaks, Waverly, Tualatin CC and Eastmoreland (no surprise on 3 of those, as Egan also designed them). If you have played those courses and liked them you will like Riverside.

I didn t have a chance to use the clubhouse, members areas, etc., so I can t comment on them.
