We visited the Destin emergency room after a small accident last January, just prior to leaving town on a late night flight. I am personally a Nurse Practitioner and my husband also works in healthcare with a combined 30 years of experience. While the service of the individuals working that night was standard, neither exemplary or terrible, our experience with this facility since has been beyond awful. Bills and payments lost, prices changed, all calls directed to an outside call center. We paid by credit card our copay that night---hospital has no record. Good thing credit company does. Requested an itemized bill from them which had a total charge of $700 and some change. Insurance was billed and then a final amt due was given to us at $950. After 4 months of calls, voice mails, un-returned calls from managers and countless explanations which still cannot make the math add up correctly we paid the bill to be done. Not worth ruining our credit over.

We live and work in the area. I highly caution you, if you have a choice, I would pick another facility or settle in for a long battle. I heard countless patient complaints about the same billing problems while I practiced on that side of town. We won't be making the return trip there ever. Buyer beware.... regardless of soaring healthcare costs, the bills should at least agree, and if they don't, there sure better be a way to talk to a real live person who gives a d**m and can fix it!
