Although the touristic spotlights are mainly focused on the Prado and Reina Sofia museums, the Thyssen-Bornemisza certainly deserves as much as the two mentioned above. The substantial difference lies in being a private collection (of the steel magnate Thyssen-Bornemisza) acquired by the Spanish government in 1993; this means that in this museum it is possible to admire paintings of different nature and historical period: from works of the XIII to works of the twentieth century.

Note that there is the possibility to visit the museum for free every Monday from 12 to 16.
