The NTNU Mandarin Training Center is by far the best Chinese Language program I've attended. Their one-on-one personal lessons are the most effective way to learn Chinese for non-native speakers, and it is possible to learn to read and write as well. Languages are particularly difficult for me, so I have greatly appreciated the warmth and patience of both my teacher and the MTC staff. The price for courses is quite reasonable, and discounts are offered for larger blocks of time. Teachers are able to schedule flexible times for lessons, which working professionals in the US will find this very convenient. Teachers can be available after US office hours.
While I have not attended classes on-campus, I was able to visit. The MTC itself is in the Bo'ai building, and the whole campus is quite lovely and dignified, a rival to any US ivy league or California UC. It is near Da'an forest park, public transportation (MRT), and a youbike location. There is also no shortage of restaurants and coffee shops. My only recommendation to the school for its remote students is to develop a network of Mandarin-speakers near their students so they can practice outside class. If you are a student taking a remote class, it's very helpful to find a friend with whom you can practice.
