Thomas Mikolasko Review of McCradys by Sean Brock
We had a couple of really good things and some sup...
We had a couple of really good things and some super disappointing food and the service was not great. Two of us ordered the Roasted Chicken which was tasted great; however, one of the other guests ordered the Pork Porterhouse which came to the table cold, like really cold. All of our plates were not quite hot, but we let it go because eating room temperatue chicken is not the end of the world but the pork was inedible. Rather than make another Pork Porterhouse, they simply heated the existing pork, which had already been cut into (most likely by placing it back on the grill or in the oven) and it totally overcooked it to the point that it became too tough to eat. We also had an order of Crinkle Cut Fries which were terrible. They were fried but they were totally soft and super oily. We asked and they were supposed to be crispy (only one in the bunch had any texture). When we were discussing the Pork Porterhouse, we told them about the Crinkle Cut Fries but they never replaced them or addressed them. Surprising that this happened at McCrady's Tavern. It was a Sunday night so maybe that had something to do with it. Also, our server was not up to par. He tried, but again, maybe it was the Sunday night team. However, I will say that the manager who came to address the situation, was super apologetic and was clearly concerned. One other thing to mention is that the Pomme Puree side was really fantastic. No reason to go back. Lots of other great places in Charleston.
