Agnelo Ribeiro Review of The Westin Portland

I made a reservation to this hotel weeks in advance to celebrate my wedding anniversary. When I arrive I was given a dirty room. When I tried to change the room I was told there were no clean rooms currently available. I was told to check my bags at the lobby and that someone would call my cell when the room became available. So I went for a walk and over two hours later I received a call from the hotel informing me the room is available - I kid you not, over two hours! This was on a Friday afternoon - yes Friday when there should've been clean rooms available in anticipation for the weekend rush. This Westin hotel unbelievably did not have clean rooms available for guests.
I proceeded to call Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), the people who booked my reservation, but they refused to help citing that I'm at the mercy of the Westin. What a new low for big names in the service industry.
Anyway, at the end of it all, the manager on duty wrote a short apology note.
A note to all travelers thinking of staying at this hotel, especially if you're paying a premium price for your room, look for other options in the area. The only redeeming quality this hotel has is the location. The building itself is unimpressive and the service left a lot to be desired. The rooms aren't very clean, the staff wasn't all that helpful and the hotel charges $25-$35 per night for parking. For a Westin hotel, this property is a bust. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere in town.
