Willem van Oranje bought the medieval old Loo in 1684. The palace (summer residence of Dutch governors and kings from 1686 to 1975) was last inhabited by Princess Margriet. From 1984 it has been decorated as a museum. There is a lot of splendor to see in the gardens of palace Het Loo, beautifully restored to its former glory, and it is wonderful to walk through it. In the palace itself we thought it was a bit too full and very dark (there was of course no electric light in the past). Not a royal palace with very large rooms. Lots of paintings, many corridors and many small rooms. A maze for the uninitiated. The gardens made us happier. Very unfortunate that taking pictures in the palace was not allowed. All in all a special experience and worth it!
