The veterans that work there are well mannered and helpful. But the medical staff does a poor job with helping veterans with chronic issues and chronic pain. Example, I had a slipped herniated disk with sciatica and it was the extreme case. This was caused by a injury I had in the Army. The doctor here at this location prescribed gabapentin and lidocaine gel that did nothing to relieve the pain I was having. I tried to see the doctor again about this and they told me the doctor normally doesn't see people with chronic issues, so they referred me to the nurse. She said she would inform the doctor but she also stated that I'm supposed to be working with my condition. I went to the Dallas VA then to get a MRI, after that the pain management clinic at Dallas VA told me no neurosurgeon would ever do surgery on me because of this condition. I wanted a second opinion, went to the ER outside of the VA, the neurosurgeon there said I needed fusion surgery and that having a epidural will not fix it because my disk was too far out. In my opinion and experience from this the whole VA Healthcare system needs a overhaul.
