As a healthcare professional I was deeply disturbed. I arrived to find my sister unsupervised, in 4 point restraints so tight her feet were cool and discolored with deep impressions on both wrists and ankles. No one seemed sure how long they had been on. I removed them immediately. The hospital lobby and waiting rooms give the impression of cleanliness but it stops there. The patient rooms are not as nice and there are many, many infection control issues that need to be addressed. Patient chairs with torn upholstery are an infection control nightmare as the porous material protruding from the tears is impossible to clean and disinfect properly between patients. I desperately wish I had a culture kit in my purse! Base molding pulling away from the walls in every room I saw leaving a perfect environment for mold, spores, virus and bacteria to grow. As well as flooring that is puckering, lifting and warped away from the base floor and molding. Again, a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, mold and spores. Having no culture kits, I cant say if the black matter peeking out from under the warped flooring near the sink is organic matter or just filth but I confident CMS and JCAHO will be able to identify it exactly, Communication between staff seems almost non-existent. I heard responses like "Well, I wasn't here when she came in" "I didn't hear anything about that in report" "This is the first day I've had her" "We do not have time to read the doctor's notes" " I wondered about that when I got report but didn't have time to ask" The employees seemed kindly and well meaning enough but professionalism and basic medical knowledge seem dangerously lacking. The physicians are no better informed than the nurses. My phone call to a physician is what prompted me to drop everything and fly to Maryland ASAP when I called to check on my sister (my identity and relationship to the patient had already been established) and got a snide "What do you want to know" and then each question was brushed aside with "you'll have to call back and ask the day shift, I wasn't here." In my entire career, I have never encountered such an ill-informed, unaccountable, unprofessional medical staff. Everything about the establishment (as I refuse to refer to it as a hospital) is unacceptable. I gave one star because zero stars is not possible.
Addendum: 10/2/18. It's been more than 2 weeks since I filled out the form for someone to contact me. The organization has made no effort to contact.
