Jena Butterfield Review of Mohawk Mountain Ski Area

We brought our son for his first ski trip to Mohawk and are ecstatic about this mountain now. It is located just over two hours from nyc which allowed us the quick turn around we needed but gave us the experience we were hoping for in order to introduce our little guy to the joys of a ski vacation. The area is bucolic and the mountain feels quaint and charming, like the New England experience we were looking for. The lodge felt like a lodge (not a school cafeteria) with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables on the deck overlooking well groomed trails. But it was the staff that elevated this experience. There were plenty of good natured workers that anticipated everything we needed. We were immediately greeted, told where to go, had our day package sorted easily and our equipment rentals in hand within minutes. One staffer (name Jim Shockley) made our son feel at ease and was right at our side offering solutions every time we had a question. It was a well oiled machine! Our son's first ski school had at least 10 enthusiastic instructors. Parking was easy. Chowder was good. No lines. What more can I say? There aren't that many runs so its the perfect mountain to learn to ski ...or to just have a fun day out that gives you a taste of a New England ski experience with the hassle.
