It was a beautiful and hot day today and so me and my mum went to Richmond Park. We came across this pretty house called Pembroke Lodge. Very nice scenery etc. They have a cafe and so we decided to have lunch there. It's very expensive but my mum had just had her Birthday, so I chose to treat her. There was a very long line of people and it was so hot. There didn't seem to be any air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year. Lots of fly's about and exposed food. However the hot lunch being served seemed less exposed, so we chose to just eat that. Once we finally got served, we were met by a staff member named Elsie (She had a name badge on). She didn't greet us. All she said was "Yes?" with a plate in her hand.
My mum asked what ingredients were in the chicken curry and how hot it was because she is very picky about her food. She is also partly deaf and wasn't wearing her hearing aid on this particular day. Elsie has an accent and so my mum was struggling to hear and understand what Elsie was saying. It was obvious my mum couldn't hear what Elsie was saying and so I repeated it to my mum. What upset and appalled me, was that Elsie seemed to be getting very impatient with my mum. She would repeat herself to my mum but was practically shouting at her. She also rolled her eyes at one point, thinking that I/we wouldn't notice. I noticed. I was shocked but I'm not comfortable with confrontation. Elsie looked flustered and wiped her sweaty forehead with her arm while waiting for my mum to decide what she wanted. Elsie had very long black hair tied back into a ponytail but wasn't wearing a hairnet which I found this to be poor hygiene.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone to eat at. Nice location and beautiful grounds but the staff and hygiene was a huge disappointment to me.
