Our family has watched this place grow from the abandoned "Workhouse" for the poor to the amazing inn, shops, restaurants, pubs and inviting grounds that have been lovingly restored and improved upon. Years ago when we first began attending the Scottish Games in Gresham I took my children to tour the old "Poor House". It was a unique history lesson that they have never forgotten.
Many years ago, a very kind white haired gentleman in a kilt, would bring a chair and sit in our booth to visit with our family and other customers. I ran a little family business, "Dolly's Scot Shop". My children looked forward to seeing him every year. I know he was related to the McMenamins in someway but I never found out just exactly how.
