I recently booked a flight for my mother-in-law. While scrolling through the options, I noticed that there was cancellation insurance available. The travel insurance was listed for what seemed like a ridiculously cheap price. I thought, "wow, why are they giving away travel insurance -- it must be a promotion." Upon clicking the pay button, I learned that the travel insurance price quoted was "per person, per day" -- and I was billed $129 to my credit card, without any option to review the total cost before paying. I immediately phoned customer service. I was immediately informed by someone with a thick South Asian accent that this was NOT refundable and, in a condescending tone, told that the explanation of price per person per day was clearly visible and that I should have clicked on the drop down "more" button to read all the details. (As I work in a very diverse community, I am accustomed to many accents and I can generally easily understand them. However, with phone support, agents really should speak excellent English. I had to ask him to repeat questions at least twice during our conversation as I really did not understand him.) When I vehemently protested the statement that the insurance was not refundable, he suggested that he could put me on hold and look into it. However, this effort on his part was only after I threatened to write a bad review. He eventually returned and told me that they would refund the cost of the insurance in 3 to 5 business days. I am not holding my breath, I fully expect to be given the run around for a while still, and I expect to have to make more calls to support in India before this is cleared up. I hope they prove me wrong.

I travel frequently, I have purchased travel insurance in many forms on many occasions, and I regularly use online booking sites for travel arrangements -- sites that usually show the cost of what you are paying for before clicking the pay button. FlightNetwork needs to do a far better job of clearly and accurately displaying the true cost of the travel insurance, or at least the full cost of what you are purchasing before processing payment. The way the insurance cost is presented is not clear. The suggestion that it is not refundable 2 mins after I purchase it is disturbing and screams intentional deception.
