This place seriously needs some TLC. I can see how it was once a charming and refreshing place to stay. Now it seems tired, outdated, and needs some major sprucing up! I should have noted that most of positive reviews that I saw online were from more than a year ago.

When we first arrrived into our room (at Edna), we knew right away that we couldn't stay there - we saw dead stinkbugs on the floor, lady bugs on the blanket, other outdoor debris on the carpet, blankets that had thread falling out (couldn't replace this?) , stains on the carpet and wall, a weird musty smell, and our tv wasnt working properly. Housekeeping really didn't do their job did they? Hate to state this but even a 2 star hotel like Holiday Inn is cleaner. Obviously, I felt very disappointed and sad that what I thought was going to feel like a resort was starting to feel like a retreat center. I called the front desk and explained what I picked up on within minutes of walking in and was told we would be moved to the room next door. Well, the room was a little better, but there were still bugs all along the carpet especially near the window. Bugs and hotel should never be in the same sentence!!!

Thank goodness we were upgraded to another room adjacent to the main building, where the room was in much better condition - no bugs, no weird smell, and the furniture seemed in better condition.

Still...for a place that calls itself a resort and charges resort prices I expected more. The bathroom had no vents and the shower/tub needed some recaulking not to mention a more thorough tub cleaning, the outdoor screen door had a broken door siding, the only window in our room had a curtain rod that obviously wasn't leveled, and the coffee maker and hair dryer both seemed quite aged (or perhaps antiqued is another way I should see it?).

Some positive things - this place definitely has nice outdoor grounds, decent customer service, complimentary tea and coffee, and loads of potential for outdoor and sports activities. Seems like a good family place. Minus the price.

I don't know if it's just the winter season, but the boars head seems to lack a spirit of vitality or an edge when it comes to service/hospitality. I know the whole southern hospitality thing was hyped up as a big selling point, but I really didn't feel or sense the charm that it perhaps once had.
