This emergency room was probably the most disgusting medical facility I've ever been to. Other parts of this hospital are okay, but the ER was just gross. There was garbage everywhere; half-full coffee cups, bugs, bags of fast food rotting away, used tissues and napkins just left there for hours and you couldn't find a single spot to sit that didn't have a grease stain and a horrible smell. The triage room somehow smelled far worse, though, and no one was enforcing the use of face masks for respiratory patients, so a young man changed seats 5 or 6 times and coughed the entire time with the face mask around his neck, I can only hope it wasn't contagious. In addition, while we sat there waiting, nurses crowded around the security check-in computer to watch a surveillance video of a patient from the night before and very loudly make fun of someone who clearly had a mental illness. Each nurse called another one over to witness the video. Once we were actually given a room for evaluation, the nurses once again gathered right outside well within earshot of the entire hall of rooms to further discuss the video they had seen, watch it again, and even went so far as to repeat the name of the patient at least twice while elaborating on their condition. They then began to make fun of a patient who had soiled themselves, announced the room number, and argued over who has to help them get cleaned up. This was followed by a lengthy conversation about how hungover one of the staff members was, or in her words, "I might still be drunk." I get it, they have a life outside of work, but you should get a handle on your volume because I've never witnessed such unprofessional behavior before, especially not in an emergency room where patients and families are scared and upset and in such great pain, it wasn't comforting to anyone to be treated in the middle of a circus.
