I ve been suffering with spinal stenosis And scoliosis for over 40 years. I ve had attacks of extreme pain from time to time and this past Sunday I had a whopper. After about 5 hours of suffering at home I finally called 911 and went to Parkridge East. I told the male nurse I needed something for pain and he told me that I should NOT say that to the doctor when he came in. What?? That s the reason I was there. After promising me pain relief for a couple of hours and doing their tests and information gathering they finally offered me a hydrocodone and release papers. I have a whole bottle of hydrocodone at home. I was at the hospital because the pain pills were not doing a thing during this attack. Even with very high blood pressure and writhing in obvious pain for hours they treated me like a drug addict. This hospital won t ease your pain because they are afraid you ll become addicted and then lawyers will contact them. Next time I will just knock myself out with sleeping pills and muscle relaxers until the attack is over. It s a shame that people with a verifiable chronic pain condition are not given pain medicine because some people abuse the medicine. I will NEVER go to this hospital again. My visit was a nightmare and actually made my pain worse.
