This is actually John's wife reviewing. We have made a practice of visiting nice steak houses in various cities and have been consistently impressed until dining at the Metropolitan Grill. The prices were actually higher than at other restaurants (Gibson's in Chicago, Grill 23 in Boston, Golden Steer in Las Vegas to name a few favorites), and yet it was far inferior to each of these and others. The cocktail was mediocre, the side dishes were unacceptable (dry potatoes, old asparagus, undercooked, nearly raw mushrooms) and the steaks were overcooked, all being medium rather than medium rare as requested. The desserts were fine but presented in stupidly large portions. When a dinner for 4 costs nearly $600, I have high expectations, and the Metropolitan Grill fell far short of those expectations. I will say that the service was excellent; however, another negative was that other diners were wearing flip flops, sweat pants and other completely inappropriate attire. Restaurants do have the ability to create a culture in the dining room that prevents this. All of this together left an impression of laziness and absence of excellence.
