Members club and hotel. For a private bar, it's extremely affordable if you're on a deal, but if you're paying full price for membership, it doesn't stack up in comparison to other newer and more slick clubs.
It is a little tired in places, the decor is aging a little, the books on the shelves are little more than a nod to the concept) and the kitchen churns out basic but acceptable food.
However, there's a more diverse crowd here than the usual member club, the events all have a literary bent, and there's great support for emerging talent.
The event calendar is worth exploring, and members also accrue points the more they get involved with the club, from simply attending, to buying drinks, all the way to getting involved in the members board, or supporting the charity of the year.
It's well located for Central London, only a couple of stops from Waterloo, and walking distance from Charing Cross.
I look forward to seeing the club develop over 2019.
