Hello,
Hello,
We looked online for a new vehicle, found what we wanted at Toyota of the desert in cathedral city. The vehicle was, and is, I m told in transit. We went to the dealership to purchase the inbound vehicle. The the advertised internet price for the vehicle was $33,310, less 1000 rebate, so 32,310.00. Our salesman Drew sat down with us to sell us the vehicle.
When he came back with the worksheet, there was a 3000 dollar charge for an extended warranty, a paint protection product for $890.00 and a GPS vehicle system product for 1295.00, none of which they tried to sell us,or that we asked for, or wanted on our new vehicle, but it was already printed on the work sheet.
I told our salesman we didn t want the extended warranty, he said really? I said yes really, we do not want it. We may buy one down the road, but not right now. I then asked him to remove the other two aftermarket products, paint protection and GPS safety product from the worksheet, the salesman told me those are already on the car. I said to the salesman that the vehicle is not even here yet, how could they be on the vehicle? He said oh those go on the minute the truck drops the car , which I know is not true, there are many things that happen to a vehicle before aftermarket products are installed. I voiced that we didn t want those products several times in text and in person. When we went to finance, I told the finance manager that we didn t want to purchase those products, he said we would have to talk to our salesman? A minute later the salesman came in, I asked him point blank in front of my other half and the finance manager, so you re telling me I HAVE to buy these products in order to purchase the vehicle? He said yea, you do.
When we got home from the purchase, I called and texted several times with the salesman and told him do not put those products on our vehicle, we don t want them, we can come in a rewrite the contract. Drew said we can just wait til the car comes in.
The original delivery window for the vehicle to arrive dealership was 7/16-7/19. We went in yesterday 7/19 to check, we saw our salesman at the front door as we were parking, he saw us and disappeared. When they paged him for us, another salesman came out and said Drew was working with one of his customers, which didn t really make any sense,(don t know why this guy wasn t working with his own customer? He then asked what he could help with, we asked if the car was here, he came back 10 minutes later and said the due date is pushed out to 20th-26th. I again reiterated with this saleman that we don t want the aftermarket products on the vehicle.
We left the dealer and we were at petco when a man from the dealership called, not sure if he said he was the sale manager, his name was Johnny Pipitt. He said, I was told there might be some questions you answered. I explained that we don t want those two products applied to the vehicle, we don t want them,(for the 15th time). Johnny told me that even if we don t put those products on the car, that we will still pay the same price!!! I said, so you re going to charge me for things thst I don t want and that aren t going on the vehicle ? He said those aftermarket products are really a markup on the vehicle, so the customer gets something out of the market up??? He then said to me, so do you not want the car , I said we still want the car.
California vehicle code11713(e) basically says what Johnny is saying, taking those aftermarket product charges and moving them to mark up, is illegal.
We really just want to purchase the vehicle and we have a signed contract with the dealership already. We don t know if the car is there, I guess we are working with Johnny Pipitt now, haven t heard from our salesman at all. I texted Pipitt today, he said nope not here yet, have a nice day. We are headed out of town Friday, we were hoping it would be in our new Garff dealership vehicle, but now thinking we will have to rent a car. Vin 4T1S31Ak6MU562761
