Before filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, I hadn't realized that the Bureau actually took active steps to try to resolve problems with business transactions; I thought it was more-or-less a rating site. I was delighted that they actually took steps to resolve my issue, and I was very pleased that the intervention did, in fact, seem to help lead to a resolution. I would definitely enthusiastically recommend using the Better Business Bureau to anyone who experiences unfair business practices in a transaction with a commercial entity.
