"Amazing Danakil but DO NOT travel to Ethiopia with KAILAS Viaggi Milano"

I recommend anyone to visit this unique paradise in the world but I also recommend anyone to turn to a serious tour operator who uses a valid correspondent in Ethiopia. I traveled with Kailas Viaggi Milano and their correspondent on site was the "Medir" Agency in Addis Ababa. Unfortunately Kailas has entrusted me and 11 other participants to a very young Italian guide with a degree in geology and another companion who had NEVER been to Ethiopia and therefore two inexperienced in the hands of the clever local guide headed by the "Medir" Agency. Twelve of us were sick during the 14-day trip due to the precarious conditions of hygiene and not because of the known heat of the Danakil (on the Ertale Volcano we also took a shower and cold in the evening) or due to a lack of spirit of adaptation of participants. The travel program was not respected (Vulcano Caterina) and there were "empty" moments. We slept in dirty places surrounded by dirt, dirty mattresses even if the curtains are excellent, on the other hand, the inexperienced Italian guide has always accepted every situation, not being able to suggest alternatives. Little water to wash. Excellent food "trampled" by billions of flies and the dishes were washed with cold water in plastic basins. Excellent jeeps and drivers. For the trip to Danakil the spirit of adaptation is strongly recommended but we Westerners to survive in environments with temperatures over 40 * also need hygiene otherwise dysentery, vomiting and high fever are the masters and ruin the trip to those who are facing. I consulted with other people who have traveled to Danakil with other tour operators and have not had the problems of my group. I wrote my review to Kailas Viaggi, among other things they asked me, asking for feedback that I never had. Kailas Viaggi is a tour operator valid for other types of travel (I traveled with them in Bhutan) but must use "expert" guides to accompany tourists to places like Danakil, a truly poor land where there is nothing if not the wonders that appear in the photos spread on the websites. Another thing of no small importance is the very expensive price of the trip (also applies to all tour operators).
