This was my family's first time visiting Fort Meye...

This was my family's first time visiting Fort Meyers. We decided to stay in Fort Myers because it was cheaper than Sanibel Island. DiamonHead Beach Resort was an average resort. During the online process of booking the room, it was advertised as a "Gulf View". We were on the East side of the building in a corner room. When looking out through the sliding glass door from the master bedroom you see a wall. You must be standing at the sliding glass door to look out and see the gulf. Not as breath taking as the pictures suggested on the booking site.

A little more disappointed when actually booking and arriving was the disconnect between the resort and the site. It did NOT mention anything about extra fees being held during our stay nor did it mention about the extra fees incurred for the new wrists bands instead of normal cards. Great idea for the wrist bands, but it should divulge more information about fees and charges because it was hidden to us.

The beach was saddening to say the least. Due to overflow from Lake Okeechobee the water was murky, slimy, and felt like sludge on our feet. The was not told to us until we questioned a local on Sanibel Island as to what was happening. When checking out, we mentioned the murky waters and the front desk clerk looked at us and quietly apologized but seemed shocked that we had a complaint. We then retreated to the pool area. It does have 2 nice hot tubs which were frequented by younger children doing handstands and cannonballs. No adult supervision and the lack of hotel staff paying attention, we did ask the children to stop and they did. The pool and hot tubs were over chlorinated and upon further watching from the balcony, noticed some older gentleman swish around a jug and then just pour what he may have thought was the correct amount of chlorine into the filter system.

The highlight of the hotel is Cabana's restaurant downstairs. The drinks were a little strong, however the food was excellent and affordable. Also, the waitstaff was friendly.

All-in-all, as mentioned before, the resort is average and left after only 2 nights. We will not be back and should have just paid the extra money to stay on Sanibel Island.
