Are there rules here I don't know about? We have stayed here a few times before and it's always been awesome. Love the owners and their family and they've always been super helpful and nice. Not sure if it was because it was New Years or what, but this last stay was pretty rough. The room was excellent, but I am a bit confused about the kitchen and breakfast ordering. We stayed NYE and the day after - on NYE, the kitchen staff - 1 cook and 1 helper were sullen and indifferent to our attempts to order breakfast and get coffee. Ok, I get it, it's New Years and there's a big party - no problem, it's hard to work on a holiday. We work with the assistant, who doesn't have seem to have ever looked at the menu. We finally get an order in..and we wait....and wait.....and then it arrives.
Sadly, the food was a far cry from our previous stays. Five little half potatoes and two practically raw poached eggs for me. Kids ordered bacon and pancakes - only get pancakes. Toast was good. Coffee was good until it ran out a cup into our breakfast. We tried juice, the orange was fine, the cranberry had expired and was not tasty. Assistant is no where to be found when we try and correct the kids order. Sigh. Eat breakfast, move on.
The next day was very, very unpleasant. We came up for breakfast at 9AM and all the coffee was gone. All the juice had practically run out as well. There were seven people all waiting for breakfast already in the dining room, so I knew we were going to be in for a wait. But I when I said hello to the chef, she didn't turn around to acknowledge my existence or say anything. Ok, maybe I mumbled. So I looked at the menu for a couple minutes more while my husband and I politely waited for the chef to turn around or for the assistant to show up. No dice. I said Hello again, louder this time and she still didn't turn around. At that point, I decide I'm done, so I just put the menu back and head back to our room, meaning to check out. But suddenly, our key card doesn't work. So now, husband has to corral two hungry confused children while I get the front desk staff to key us a new card just so we can get in and get out. I'm just sad it went like that because we've had such a wonderful time before. Perhaps it was a one-off, but still, it left a sour taste in my mouth. Our stay was a gift from my parents and they were upset at the series of events. Maybe we'll try to stay when it's not a holiday.
