John Schafer Review of The Mark Twain House

We saw a sign on the freeway (I-84) on a recent trip to Boston, and decided it would be worth a stop to get out of the car & see the house & museum. Glad we did it. The signage from I-84 was fairly easy for us to follow to get to the house (but I'll be honest, I was thankful that we had everyone in the car looking for Mark Twain House signs, as that helped a lot). It was only a few miles (if that) from the freeway, so it was not far out of our way to stop there. We paid our admission, and had a wonderful tour of the house from a very knowledgeable staff member. It was quite the house to see, well worth the stop. Unfortunately, we did not get to see the film on Twain, nor the museum, as we had spent nearly 90 minutes there just getting our tickets & doing the tour, and it was an unplanned stop over. I would recommend it to anyone - it's a very interesting home and it's cool to see it. I will agree with other reviewers, the entrance fee to see it ($19/adult) is on the high side, but I also understand that there are expenses to maintain the facility. It would be great if they could figure out some alternative fundraising events that they could do that would help to raise more money for the facility, so that they could lower the admission prices, allowing more people to enjoy this treasure. Lower admission prices may bring more visitors into the facility, as well. But overall, I'm glad it's available to be toured, and nearly restored to how it was when the Clemens family lived there.
