The museum at the train station is so much fun. I take my kids there multiple times per year. It is a great place to break up regular routine, get out, learn something new, and explore history. The staff is friendly, and for a working train station, it is pretty clean. The one downside is, because of the generosity of multiple donors, the museum is packed and can be difficult to navigate. It also has moved away from a general cohesive flow of well done displays to a wide variety of topics. That doesn't make the displays any less valuable or interesting, but the appreciation for each item is dimmed within so many. The central focus of the museum is supposed to be the trains, and the colossal beasts still render awe in the middle of the large room. But the supporting dioramas, artifacts, videos, and facts can be missed completely. However, the train staff are passionate about their jobs, and they do a wonderful job with the enormous task of housing and displaying so many fascinating items. As I said, we love to visit, and enjoy going every time. Don't miss this on your way through Durango, even if you don't ride the train!
