Marriott, you should be embarrassed. It should be an easy, no-brainer to give a hotel like this a four star rating. But when you are taking advantage of regular customers the way you are, that leaves a really bad impression.
Here's what I'm a little wound up about. This is a hotel that has a contract with at least one major, global airline for crew to be staying there on a regular basis. This means, that they have a couple dozen rooms rented out exclusively for crew, daily. It is common practice for such hotels, to give a substantial discount for crew to dine in at the hotel, because, obviously, they have a rather lucrative contract, which, automatically keeps a couple dozen rooms booked year round. They obviously don't need to be trying to make their main profit off of the crew meals.
In this particular hotel, this "discount" exists, HOWEVER (wait for it), when I order a meal off of the room service menu, the "discount" is almost completely erased by "room delivery fees". For example, when I order salmon for $24, I am billed $12... PLUS tax and fees which add up to....AN ADDITIONAL $10!!! Yeah. So the 50% discount actually ends up being about...TWO DOLLARS OFF. That's right. $24 down to $22. Seriously Marriott?? You are that hard up for money? It's just poor form.
Speaking of poor form, the way my room is laid out requires that I lay on my side and watch TV all the way across my room. I know. Maybe it's the problem of having a corner room, and it is just laid out wrong. But still. I expect more.
Further, about that whole "expect more" bit...as I travel around the world, I have become accustomed to having somewhere to place my checked bag when I check into a room. Am I supposed to be digging through my large suitcase as it lies on the floor in a corner of the room? Evidently so, here at the Marriott Quorum.
So, why even bother with 3 stars? Well, the beds are incredibly comfortable. The rooms are reasonably clean, although dated 20 years behind the rest of the world. Ultimately, it is a decent location here as well, with about 50 great dining options handily close by. And that's fortunate, because I'm not gonna be dining in at the Marriott any time in the near future, unless they do something about that great "discount"!~
