Finally after a long walk downhill from Chiado to the Time Out Market, I was able to buy a large bunch of fresh tarragon to take back to Morocco. I needed it to make Bearnaise Sauce since dried tarragon is not recommended.
Fortunately I got to the large produce area early enough to find the tarragon before the shops completely closed down for the afternoon. A generous amount in a sealed bag cost a mere 2 .
I was very pleased that during my mid-November visit I found what I wanted since on two earlier visits to Lisbon in May and in August they were sold out of fresh tarragon at Time Out Market's large produce area.
The fresh flower shops that also have a tremendous variety of seeds of flowers, herbs, trees and vegetables is truly remarkable. I found some jacaranda seeds and will plant them indoors until the seedlings are large enough to plant outside.
I do not really like the food stalls and restaurants that seem overpriced and mainly crowded with tourists, but this covered market has all the fresh vegetables, meats and fish you could possible want, plus potted plants, cut flowers and seeds.
Be assured the prices here are often lower than supermarkets and the freshness can't be beat.
