Paul Grimes Review of The Ragged Cot Inn
Crying shame
Crying shame
We booked a meal here and as others have pointed out it was reasonable pub grub rather than delicious bistro dining. We had been warned that the restaurant had a big family party booked in so we chose the pub side.
The Mediterranean fish platter for two had a good selection of breadcrumbed/battered fish (not home made), prawns and tapenade. Main courses of sirloin steak (tasty) and 'spicy' chicken burger (bland) were ok. P.s. chips are fantastic!
Staff were clearly rushed off their feet but very polite and attentive. The couple sat next to us who were staying at the hotel were not pleased that they had not been warned that the restaurant was busy - especially as they had not been told the night before that one of the chefs was sick. The trio who rushed in from the garden after a rain shower told the same story when they then had to eat at the bar.
I wanted to visit the toilet and waited at reception for the man to notice me - he slowly looked up from his phone (held in landscape with thumbs at either end, that's a dead giveaway!) looked at me as if I had tracked in on the bottom of his shoe and deigned to point me in the right direction. I was so surprised at his attitude that I had to ask one of the waitresses who he was, "That's the owner" I was told.
Perhaps if you know you are busy and you are not very good with customers you employ more of the polite waiters/waitresses? I expected the "pub grub" food but it was the arrogant attitude that spoilt it for me.

Re. Owners comment - I can only hope he's mistaking me for another customer as I was in no way asked to leave; I politely asked for the bill, thanked our waitress and left the STAFF a tip. Although, the Jackanory comment might be right...
