Writing from the perspective of a foreign tourist in peak summer season, this is the most over rated commercial pit you can ever fall into. If you think this is just a regular park you can waltz into for a day walk without much planning, then be prepared for disappointment. The park opens at 7am and the snaking queue for the ticket counter starts to form. The earliest bus arrives at 8am. By then, the earliest available ticket entrance to the park will be from 11am to 12pm. You literally witness hundreds of people in tour groups sneaking ahead of you through the entrance as you wait in a line which doesn t move. Advice to avoid the crowd and lines would be:

1) Buy entrance ticket in advance. The latest you can purchase a ticket is 2 days prior to park entry

2) come after 1pm, the crowd starts to tone down

3) come with a tour group, this is not a park to be tight about

Hope you enjoy your experience in the park and not spend 4 hours outside waiting out of my 8 hours in Plitvice.
