Tara Rianna Review of The Standard Hotels

We went and had lunch at the Standard yesterday as it was my last day in New York. We had the best service downstairs. Fabulous food and friendly staff. We were told the rooftop bar would open at 2. When we went in we asked for directions and a staff member told us that we could go to level 17 and take the stairs. We headed off to do this and my Mum and Auntie went to the toilets at the bottom of the stairs as me and my other Auntie went to get seats. It was 2:10 by this stage. There were also some other guests following behind us, as soon as we reached the top a middle aged bald man approached us with a headset on and asked what we were doing there, which I thought was obvious. He told us they are not open yet and we are not meant to be there, go back down, he was one of the most arrogant people I have ever met in my life and he proceeded to heard us downstairs to show us towards the actual entrance. He was that rude we told him not to bother and waited at the stairs for the ladies in the toilet, when he realised we were not following him he got even ruder, which I didn't think was possible. "What are you doing?!" He pretty much yelled and I answered people were in the bathroom. "No one is meant to be in there!" He went on. I pointed out there are no signs ANYWHERE saying that and I went in the bathroom to let the ladies know to hurry and like a creep he waited right at the door. When he felt they were taking too long, he walked into the women's bathroom!! They were washing their hands and he came in, aggressively reminding us we can't be there. We were shocked that someone with this attitude could have a job and when we asked his name, he repeated 'guest services', clearly knowing he was doing the wrong thing. If he didn't, why would he not give us his name. We had another group of people waiting downstairs and there would've been ten of us all together. This man left the worst taste in our mouths and there was no way we were giving to spend money at an establishment that hired staff that treated people this way. Absolutely disgusting. We went to the hotel to complain but were told they don't own it and gave us a card to contact someone. Which we will be doing, not that there is much point as I doubt anything would be done about it. There are plenty of of other rooftop bars in NYC to spend your money at.
