While it is rarely a pleasant experience being admitted to a hospital, I will try to set aside my bias here. It is unfortunate that these folks have the market cornered in this area. There is just no justifiable reason why a pulse monitor, three bags of saline water, a blanket, and 2 hours in a bed should cost anybody $2000.

***Update Jan. 2018*** After some research I see that I am relatively uninformed about the economics of our medical system and prices at St. Joe's are fairly standard nationwide. However, if anything, that fact exemplifies how broken the system is and it is still ridiculous that a society with resources enough to maintain everyone's basic health many times over is this late in the game.
