Wonderful place for a day trip and also check their website because they have night activities and also photo shoots. Great place to bring the kids and they do accept donations of money and clean linen and towels for the animals. They're open summer and winter, dress warm for the winter days. Turn right out of the bird sanctuary and go to Lone Elk Park and drive through oh, no charge can you might see some large elk & bison. There is a beautiful Lake there that you can enjoy, take a picnic.
I absolutely love this place! I ADORE birds, and these birds are so well taken, healthy, and kept so well cared of..I couldn't love more- how many they release back into the wild. I have absolutely loved going to this place since being a child. I highly recommend it to everyone!

The sanctuary is on your way to the Lone Elk Park and is a beautiful stop if you decide to go by there. They have a large variety of birds that they've rescued from far and wide and the brief history and trivia for each bird in there.
The whole sanctuary is wheel chair accessible. They have a gift shop too. Entry is free to the place but you can always leave a something. You can also use the Schucks scrip card to automatically donate some proceeds to the World Bird Sanctuary if you'd like to when you're back home to your grind.
The place has an amphitheatre too so you can also plan a birthday or a get together at this venue. There's a trail of you like hiking in the woods right in the middle of the park.
The park closes at 5 so you should plan to get there on time so you have enough time to soak in the sights.
Free place and some neat animals. Looks like they have a lot of construction in progress and several cages were empty. Employees were pleasant and inactive which is always nice.
There is something so peaceful about this place. I found out during my last visit that they have walking trails open to the public, so if you go wear proper shoes so you can take advantage of this. The volunteers truly are dedicated to the care & preservation of our beautiful feathered friends. There isn t a fee to enter this place but donations are accepted and truly needed, so if you decide to stop by please donate.
It's totally free!! Great place to get the kids out of the house. The trail to see all kinds of different birds is completely in the shade so it's not so hot. Also they have a playground for the kids to burn any extra energy they might have after looking at the birds. There is a couple spots to give a donation. They also have awsome looking bird houses you can buy. If you want a souvenir they have a gift shop.
This cant be sanctuary - sanctuary place does not breed animals as this place does - they brag about how many birds are actually born and lived there life here - thats not sanctuary !
A sanctuary for wounded birds. Great place to see falcons, eagles, owls, many other birds. It's near Lone Elk park and between the two, it's a great place to spend several hours. One, two, ten people; doesn't matter -- come visit.
It was great seeing HUGE bald eagles, hawks, owls, condors, and other birds literally just a few feet away. It was even better knowing that every one of these were rescued birds, birds with a broken foot, for example, that surgery could not fix; or a wing. Some birds were elderly former outreach training birds that are now blind. They are still beautiful, still majestic. See the pictures. It was exciting to see the eagle eating the rabbit (that the ranger told us the bird had hidden from her because she was surprised to see it eating something after she had just cleaned the cage). And seeing them spread their wings in the sun was awesome.
Loved spending the day enjoying the outdoors, and learning about all the birds that they have at the sanctuary. The birds looked well taken care of, and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. It was also cool to see that many of the bird enclosures are Eagle Scout projects.
A beautiful place to see birds being rehabilitated, birds we may not have had the opportunity to see otherwise. Definitely fun to take children to but even fun to go with a date.
We came for the Harry Potter themed owl educational program and we all loved it. Got the opportunity to experience multiple owls up close. We will be back when it warms up to check out all the outdoor exhibits
This place was very interesting to walk around. The birds were all very fascinating to look at. They had some that you could see up close and some in cages. It was very pretty there also
They had a wonderful native Missouri plant sale the day I went. The variety of birds is amazing as is the work they do. A must see before you head to Lone Elk Park
What a wonderful place! Early morning is the best time to visit to avoid the crowds and often can see the birds being fed. Eagles, vultures, emu, falcons, hawks and more live until they can be rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Those that can't safely be returned to the wild due to their injuries get to live out their lives here in a safe and healthy environment. The staff here really seem to enjoy and take great pride in their work and are excited to share their efforts with the public.
My husband and I frequent the Sanctuary. We love seeing all the birds, and the shows are a lot of fun. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We've even made relationships with a few of the birds and are a part of the adopt a bird program. I would highly recommend the World Bird Sanctuary.
Haven't been here for awhile and my friend had never been. It's so great to see these beautiful animals being cared for after they've been injured or neglected. Great little gift shop and I loved Beatrix, the mini-rex bunny they've got. Just please, people, don't use clay cat litter in the bunny's litter pan. It can kill them! Also if she eats the fuzz from rhe tennis balls you've given her it will kill her. My friend loved the rat, Miss Bianca. The best part though was when we saw the other animals and one of the staff gave us 2 of their Madagascar cockroaches to keep my single female roach, Elvira, company after her mate died, plus tips on how to care for them! Thank you for the fun outing and new family members as well. We'll be back soon!
This is a great place to take the kiddos, especially of they love wildlife. The staff are very informative and love answering questions about the park, birds, and other wildlife.
I am in love with the WBS, this is truly my happy place. I started visiting and volunteering since I was 13, I'm now 16 and still love all the animals, staff, and expiriences I've been offered.
Great place to visit with the family. Trails to hike if you'd like, lots of neat birds and stories about how they were rescued and a live show. All of it is free. Great place for a little family adventure! Highly recommend.
Best place to see and learn about birds. They have classes and events. I saw the Falcons in training exercises at Buder park for 10.00 and you never know who is going to be there. I got to see the Bald Eagle in training for one of the big sports events. He is one of three that travels the USA sports events. Very good narrative personnel. I highly recommend it.
The birds are interesting but in spite of checking the FB page as directed we weren't aware of a partial closure of the park which prevented us from seeing some of the best birds so I would call.
It was nice but cold & half was under construction. I'm sure it's better in spring or summer. My only gripe is you can't take good pictures unless you're right up against the cage through the bars...i understand you want people not to rattle the cages but it's frustrating for people who take pictures.
This place has really gone downhill over the past years. Used to be able to get quality photos of dozens of birds without a fence in the line of sight. Now everything is caged. I brought my SLR but didn't even have a reason to turn it on. The indoor interpretive areas are mostly gone, but the gift shop has expanded. Sadly no longer worth the visit.
This is a great place to go for young and all the lights that have interest in outdoor fun and seeing some of the great animals they care for here they have a collection of raptors owls and various birds from around the world a great outdoor child play area nice hiking trails and a picnic area. Clean restrooms nice little gift shop and the staff members you can tell absolutely adore the animals they careful they will answer any question you have and if you time it right you can go and see one of their amazing demonstrations. And don t forget to donate while you re there.
