WOHA Architects: Creating Sustainable and Innovative Architectural Solutions for the 21st Century
WOHA Architects is a Singapore-based architectural firm that was founded in 1994 by Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell. The company has since become one of the most innovative and forward-thinking architectural practices in the world, with a focus on creating sustainable and integrated solutions to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our planet today.
At WOHA Architects, sustainability is at the heart of everything they do. The company's philosophy is based on creating buildings that are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable. This approach has earned them numerous awards over the years, including the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
One of WOHA's key strengths is their ability to create integrated solutions that address multiple challenges simultaneously. For example, their PARKROYAL on Pickering hotel in Singapore combines greenery with architecture to create a stunning vertical garden that helps to reduce heat gain while also providing habitat for birds and insects.
Another example of WOHA's innovative approach can be seen in their SkyVille@Dawson project. This public housing development features communal spaces designed to encourage social interaction among residents while also incorporating sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting systems and solar panels.
In addition to their focus on sustainability, WOHA Architects is also known for their expertise in urban planning. They have worked on numerous projects around the world aimed at improving urban environments by promoting walkability, reducing car dependency, and increasing access to public transportation.
One such project is Kampung Admiralty in Singapore โ an integrated community hub that brings together housing for seniors with amenities such as medical clinics, retail shops, and community gardens. The development was designed with accessibility in mind โ all facilities are located within walking distance โ making it easier for seniors to stay active and engaged within their community.
WOHA Architects' commitment to sustainability and innovation has earned them a reputation as one of the most respected architectural firms in the world. Their projects have been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions, and they have won awards from organizations such as the World Architecture Festival, the Royal Institute of British Architects, and the American Institute of Architects.
In conclusion, WOHA Architects is a company that is dedicated to creating sustainable and innovative solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing our planet today. Their focus on sustainability, integrated design, and urban planning has earned them a reputation as one of the most forward-thinking architectural practices in the world. If you are looking for an architectural firm that can help you create beautiful, environmentally friendly buildings that are also socially responsible and economically viable โ look no further than WOHA Architects.
