Extensive menu, food qualty was excellent from appetizer to dessert. Attentive and efficient service. Great value! Can't wait to return. Highly recommended.
Good food, quiet surroundings, worth noting as so many restaurants are very loud.
Great food. Really cool historic atmosphere. Awesome looking bar and great drinks. Gourmet food too.
On vacation. Went for dinner. Got great reviews so checked it out. My kinda place all the way. Very charming and friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and outstanding food! Had steak tips and added stuffed shrimp. Fabulous. Clam chowder, scallops and stuffed clams were awesome. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and done right. Best baked clams I've ever had, and I've had plenty growing up on Long island.
Had a reservation but still had to wait half an hour to be seated. Took the waitress half an hour to come to the table to even take drink orders and then forgot some drinks. Ordered apps which were good but the waitress didn't come back for drink refills or a dinner order for another thirty minutes. Then tells us that they're out of prime rib. That's something you should mention when you seat someone considering it's on your sign out front. Seems like the food would be good but it's not worth waiting hours to order and being ignored for. Will never return to this place.
Last 2 times here I have been disappointed. Their fried clams were limp and soggy. This time I tried the duck, it had the taste, smell and consistency of liver. I found out that I was not the first one to complain about it but they are still serving it. Some people in our party did enjoy their meals but there are too many great restaurants in the area for me to waste my money here again.
Good food, drinks...can be busy so reservation s recommended
I just had a friend visiting and I knew I would be taking her, she loved it. I have more company coming in August and I am planning bringing them to the Winward Grille restaurant. The food is the best.
The menu selections were extensive, both surf, turf & duck. Very artfully prepared, and delicious. Great service and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is charming early American.
Best meal on the north shore. Been coming here for years. Never a bad meal. Wide variety of great food. Make a reservation.
The place offers a vast range of fresh food. I like eating here. Employees are always nice, prices are fair and the spot is always neat.
Enjoyable, rustic, quiet dining. The food is excellent.
It's been a long time but had a decent lunch there recently. Not the biggest portions of haddock, but good quality and the prices were very reasonable.
If you go frequently, try to get Tom the waiter/bartender, he remembers repeat customers very well.
Food is perfectly portioned with specials and the puff pastry with ice cream and chocolate is very light and decadent.
Good food. Nice house wines for the price. Always great service. Comfortable atmosphere.
I really love their dishes and service, awesome area to my residence. The cashiers are always kind. Will come back again.
Great, friendly service. The food was typical New England seafood, very traditional but definitely fresh. Get there early because it fills up quickly!
Charming old colonial house, food was great, friendly service...
Cozy vibe, decent prices, and excellent home-cooked food
Horrible customer service. My grandmother and her book club were banned from the Windward Grill because they were said to have displayed rude behavior. They had their room booked a year in advance and were of course upset when they arrive to see their table was given away, which was not in the wrong or the book club, but the restaurant.
This is an outstanding resteraunt in a charming building. The menu is amazing and the food is fabulous! The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We were visiting from out of town but if we lived near by I can assure you we would be there every week. If you are in the area this is a must.
Food excellent. Service just normal. Drink not so good, flat
First, I shall give credit to our waitress! She did a good job and I have no reason to include her in my complaint.
Upon entering and being seated, I soon realized that this place is likely a popular night out for those who wish to spend a good amount of money on a sub-par meal. Our appetizer was enjoyable, but the chicken piccata entree we ordered was a soggy mess, lacking the appropriate flavors. Grilled asparagus to accompany our chicken dish (3 pieces), was steamed and certainly not grilled. Whoops, I forgot to mention the bread that came out right after we were seated. The bread was pretty dense and stale. I would urge folks to avoid this restaurant, until they begin to make meals that are enjoyable and do not resemble something that is served in a school cafeteria, hospital, or nursing home.
Windward management-> you could do so much better!!!
Excellent and. g
reat service
Fantastic and delicious food, I like the atmosphere the spot has, and the cashiers were very kind. Will definitely visit here next time.
Went for wife's birthday and we are pretty regular. Asked for surprise piece if cake with candle, twice, told all set and... not all set. After $100+ brought the bill, looking at waitress, finally like you forgetting something? And.... nothing, just the bill. So I say the birthday thing and...oh yeah, I'm sorry I forgot. I'll go get it. Uh, drinks were cleared, everything else, just a bill. So reload drinks and cheernfrom a cleared tablenfornthencake desert thing? She insisted we take the cake anyway, And she just brought in a take out to complete the ruin the birthday thing. I'm pissed. So here is the big birthday celebration instead of a little of fanfare, sharing and fun. Oh and the argument in the car on the way home because I was pissed, and she didn't want me to be mad because we go there all the time so now there is a car battle about me being mad ruining more than it being screwed up. Big fun.. So annoying. Dinner part was good though. Sucks it ends like this. Still mad.
Food was great. Big varied menu. Steaks and salmon cooked perfectly. Plenty of parking.
A quaint restaurant with a friendly wait staff. We arrived for our reservation and our table was ready and they didn't blink an eye when we added one at the last minute. The food was delicious. Came out hot and the fried seafood was not at all greasy. We had a great Mothers Day lunch here.
Great food, big drinks, great service, easy parking
Nice dining in Essex, MA. Extensive menu and good service.
Wonderful place to sit back and relax while enjoying a wonderful meal.
Delicious. Impressive seafood selection with dish variations that were tough to decide on. Comfortable, cozy environment with an excellent staff. We will be back.
Love it!! Great food!
Service has been a bit off 3 times in a row now....
Although my fish was great ... this is second time my spouse got the mixed grill Don't GET THIS.. We were assured on the phone it would be better this time. Both times ordered the tips rare and came out very well done and the chicken was like a hockey puck and dry as dust the only saving grace was the sweet potato fries.. they are great
Just discovered this little gem on the MA coast. Seafood Audrey is fantastic; the atmosphere is lovely, everything was clean, well-maintained and the staff were very pleasant. My only issue seemed to be the time betweeen ordering and receiving the meal. Seemed to be a tad long. The dining room was hopping though, and the wait staff was ALWAYS hustling. No one was ignoring us. I have told everyone at work when in the Essex area; make sure you have a meal here.
Our first time here. Our 35th Anniversary. Kayla K., our waitress was very attentive. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was great. Definitely coming again. Oh yeah, the chowder is THE BEST.
Excellent food, service, and drink. Lovely atmosphere. My favorite restaurant in Essex. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
The waiter was bored having to serve our party of two and the food was barely adequate. Having eaten here often, today was a real disappointment.
Not going to find better sea food. Quaint historic building. A must if in Essex.
Vegetables were cold and the mash potatoes tasted old and gray looking...my first time there...everything else was good....liked the atmosphere.
Always an enjoyable experience at Windward Grill. Owners, Tim and Vicky are warm and welcoming. Victoria's most excellent culinary skills are a delight! If you haven't had a chance to experience Windward Grill. I highly recommend it. Sitting by the fireplace is makes for an intimate dining room.
Food was amazing and service by Courtney made us happy.
Some of the best prime rib on the north shore. Great classic new England fare in a really cozy setting. Worth the drive from Salem!
What a wonderful place to eat. The food and drinks are terrific and very reasonable. I believe I ve had just about everything on the menu except some desserts, and I ve never been disappointed. Vicky and Tim know how to run a fantastic waitstaff and bar. The waitstaff is pleasant, efficient and always willing to help. I have my favorite waitresses but every one is professional and gracious. Thanks for being so special in an age of mediocrity. When you care, it shows. Special Kudos go out to Courtney who is the consummate waitress.
It s always a pleasure to see everyone working together smoothly and with a smile.
The best seafood and awesome meats and impeccable service. Top quality.
I am not a seafood person, but love the filet mignon every time. Have been a patron for years. Make sure to ask for the bearnaise sauce with it if not already asked. This is my go to place for steak and cocktails. Fills up quick on Friday and Saturday.
IS IT TRUE THAT YOU STOP LUNCH TIME I HOPE KNOT. THE BEST FOOD IN ESSEX MA.
Would surely recommend trying this place. Awesome mood, flavorful dishes, awesome customer service. I recommend this place.
Went to Mothers Day takeout
Daughters of owner beautiful polite excellent service!
Biggest fresh lobster rolls ever!!!
Great experience!
A nice restaurant in a very old building, I believe the building was here in 1675! I had scallops which came out in a generous portion, piping hot, and flavorful. The server did everything well and the overall experience was relaxing. My only minor critique is that we sat in the booth where the leather padding was torn up and in definite need of replacing.
Beautiful venue, an old New England home, excellent service and delicious food!
The food was excellent, very reasonably priced. The one thing I would caution is when you make reservations and they ask if you can climb stairs say NO. The area we were seated in was up a flight of stairs and felt very isolated from the restaurant experience. The service was good but a few times felt like we were not fully attended. I believe that was due to our seating in the "attic". This space is not a loft with a view of the restaurant and there are no window views either. I will definitely go back but will never be seated up there again.
This is one of my go to eateries. The staff is friendly and attentive
The menu has something for everyone. I had an appetizer of scallops, shrimp over a bed of baby spinach and blue cheese. Outstanding.
Service is excellent. Food top shelf. Staff friendly and courteous. Tim is
truly a gentleman.
Excellent food, pleasant staff and reasonable prices, perfect!
Great place. Great service. The history is cool. Kids loved it.
I had the seafood casserole which was delicious. I was with 6 others who had seafood, lamb and chicken that was just as good. Only one person had chicken fingers that were not very good. Their martinis were different and very very good. Can't wait to go back.
