I put a few of these in the ground last summer at my home in Hodges, SC, and they really impressed me. They sprang up completely healthy and bloomed beautifully, even though I didn't have the luxury of giving them the usual extra attention I'd normally provide. I simply cleared out the planting area, and they thrived. The best part is that they turned into a favorite hangout for my cat, so now I get bonus affection too!

I was looking forward to adding this plant from Wayside Gardens to my collection, but the experience fell short. Despite carefully following the planting instructions, the plant struggled and passed away in under three weeks. It’s a real shame given the price I paid for such a small specimen.

The Raven is also lovely, though its blooms are quite a bit smaller, more like the size of a penny or nickel. I did have a bit of bad luck with the Dragon Hearts, though; out of three bags, I only got one viable plant, with the others looking more like sawdust. I haven’t seen any blooms on that single Dragon Heart yet, so I don’t have photos of it, but I have plenty of beautiful pictures to share of the Havana Blues and Raven!

I’ve had great success with this Juniper from Wayside Gardens; it’s thriving in full sun. However, I planted it near two beautiful crabapple trees, and now I’m anxious about the spread of Cedar Apple rust. Is this actually a variety of Red Cedar? If it is, I might have to remove it. It’s also a bit frustrating that Wayside Gardens doesn’t explicitly warn customers about this destructive disease.

Wildberry Heuchera is an absolute powerhouse! It thrives with so much vigor whether planted in containers, raised beds, or directly in the ground. I’ve seen it flourish in deep shade, partial sun, and even full sun, producing dense, lush foliage. My only minor issue was losing a few to a very wet, heavily trafficked area with plenty of dogs, but that was more about the location than the plant itself. It’s incredibly resilient and handles moderate moisture well, though it clearly prefers drier conditions. A fantastic addition to any garden in Hodges or beyond—I love it!

I’m giving two stars to the bulbs that actually sprouted, but zero to the three that didn’t. Since these bulbs aren’t cheap, especially at Wayside Gardens outside of a sale, and with the shipping costs tacked on, losing $60 on three dead bulbs really stings.

When I called to complain, Rachel was unhelpful, basically saying it’s too bad if it was too cold and they won’t do anything about it. If you claim a plant will thrive in a specific zone, you should stand behind that guarantee! I’m never shopping here again or recommending Wayside Gardens to anyone.

Once established, it is an incredibly vigorous vine that can grow several feet in a single season and tolerate heavy pruning. The red flowers look stunning alongside other cottage garden plants, offering better visual impact than yellow honeysuckle, though they do lack that classic scent. For overall vigor, growth habit, and re-blooming performance, I highly recommend this plant.
