Our.daughter chose Vermilionville at the venue for her wedding and reception. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious. We will be back for a tour of the grounds on the near future.

You can learn quite a lot here. Very interesting and very beautiful
Take a stroll back in time. Perfect for a day date or a trip with the family. We are never disappointed. A true gem
It's fun, the readings are interesting, the historical characters, except one, do not speak French, so it's difficult to communicate for non-English speakers
For those who are interested in history, this is a very good place to learn about the history and buildings of the region.
A must see in Lafayette and Louisiana! Very helpful staff and many of them speak French.
The village is great to visit with the family. The restaurant cuisine is very good. Atmosphere guaranteed on Sunday with the ball!
The museum was very informational...lots of reading...not much for kids....nice video.....watch the one they gen up..a little one plays all the time over a fireplace. Beautiful colorful Creole plantation house. Didn't go th ru any other buildings..werent sure we could have with an reenactment going on..stumbled unto that...got a little bit of what it concerned
Cool place, neat, educational demonstrations. Good food. Nice place to hang out. Love the buildings, restaurant Cajun food, music, and gift store!
I love the food here.
Makes me think of cooking from home.
Yum yum.
My oldest daughter who is 3 had a blast here when we walked around the village. Some of the attractions (such as the science section) are interactive just for kids. They do weddings & special occasion events. They also offer tours in English & french for tourist/school visits (The plaques are written in both language's as well if I remember right). Within the Vermillionville village they have a restaurant. The food served here definitely hits home if looking for comfort food. If anyone is coming through Louisiana and ends up going through Lafayette, this place is not only a great place to stretch the legs, but also get a bite to eat by getting a true taste of the Cajun cuisine.
Good old-fashioned food ... not to be missed on a trip to Louisiana
This was so much fun! I loved the ferry! The people are all dressed up and full of information!
Very friendly staff. Great history. Great experience
Awesome place to learn about the history of Lafayette and Louisiana. In particular the Creole history of the area. Cooking demonstrations that are held periodically are really good and the food is awesome. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Beautiful amazing place. Food is very good in the restaurant. Gift shop needs more variety but great fun and experience.
Fascinating living history of Acadiana - reconstructed buildings in a lovely setting and great period guides, both Native American and Cajun
Went for the Purchased Lives exhibit and enjoyed the experience. I will definitely be attending more exhibits.
This is a great destination. Everyone was very friendly. There was live Cajun music and the restaurant served authentic Cajun food that was really good. I highly recommend the whole experience.
Very good place. Very good music and better workers.
Staff was very inviting. Good learning experience for myself and the kids. They enjoyed the canoe. I enjoyed the boat that you pull on a rope to get across.
Love it. Go there to listen to cajan music played there on Saturdays
Relaxing experience, very informative. Took the whole family, and we enjoyed ourselves so much. The young lady at the entrance was so nice, and the artisans/historians inside were so nice and took a real interest in teaching you about the Louisiana culture. I recommend it!
Quite nice. Beautiful scenery, restaurant, like a real Cajun village. Inexpensive.
Essential if you visit Lafayette. Excellent approach to the history of the area.
Learned so much about our french heritage in louisianna.
If you like history, a must see. I loved the watershed and historic buildings. Spent almost 4 hours. The restaurant inside is worth the try. I had lunch buffet, it was tasty.
I was there a month ago for the Native American Festival and it was awesome
Collection of homes, school, church, and forge from late 1700 to 1900. They have people in nearly every house. Small nature/weather museum. Really neat and nicely maintained. Small ferry for people to use themselves.oops. almost forgot. Also a very friendly donkey...the sheep think their to good to be petted.
This place is certainly interesting but it could be much better. The setup is nice and there is quite a lot of things to do. A full visit will take at least 2-3 hours.
It could be much more... if you find the artisans. They spend more time at lunch break or smoke break than entertaining you. Because they are so organized they all go at the same time.
Beware too that the French translations are provided courtesy of a random internet translator. What was certainly a good initiative turns to a complete non sense and an insult to French language.
We had a great day making masks for running the chicken and ate great Gumbo and cake
This is a perfect family place, but you do not need kids to have a reason to go. Just go!We started off our tour in the beautiful, restored barn. There was a fantastic zydeco band playing music and the wood dance floor held some really impressive dancers. The tour of the homes, black smithery, and gardens were like taking a step back in time. There's even a cute ferry that you can "hand pull" with a rope across Petit Bayou. The whole family got a kick out of that.I highly recommend Vermilionville as it was one of the high points of our great trip to Lafayette.
Make the museum before and all the history of the Cajuns is key
Although I have gone to a few events here, I usually only take the full Vermilionville tour when a friend comes into town. But each time I do, I learn something new. It's such a great, historical place, and no matter if you live in town or not, it's definitely worth a visit. The workers are fun to chat with and learn from, and the grounds are beautiful. They also host Cajun jams, workshops, lectures and films, and have a restaurant. Good times.
The bayou Vermillion district opened the Vermillion ville living history museum. Vermilionville sits on a beautiful tree covered 23 acre sit on the banks of bayou Vermillion with different attraction including stored original homes with costume artisan, food, culture, music, architecture. Really nice place to bring your child and hangout with your friends.this place has historical background and they continuing till today..amazing place, knowledgeable stuff and welcoming environment.
Interesting; explanations in French; very good restaurant; to do
Very beautiful village and great atmosphere on Sunday. Family
Great tour of the village and buildings. Cajun music in the hall and dinner made a wonderful day.
round up Austin, de Cajun blacksmith, fer de real leauxdown on historic life... and Curtis de Cajun boat maestro. if you pass up de restaurant, you ain't livin' rite by de gods. jus' sayin'
Great interpretive history! I went with a group of fifth graders and they were interested and asked questions. Recommended.
One of my favorite places to recommend two visitors. Their mission is the preservation of our Creole and cajun culture. Authentic and very well done.
It's a nice glimpse of the past. People inside are genuinely interested to share their story with visitors.
Whether you're a local or tourist there is something here for everyone. Weekend buffet is a great sampling of local favorites.
Wonderful way to learn and enjoy the culture of this area. We loved the interaction with the knowledgeable staff. Thank you so much.
We didn't take the boat tour, but I loved walking through the village, seeing the artifacts, and talking to the artisans spinning and weaving, etc. There are knowledgeable staff and interesting presentations on the history of the area.
We don't think about what life was like when metal items had to be forged and we washed close in a bucket and was a process. Each person contributed to society. This time capsule town is a great visiting place to unplug and be reminded of that time. I don't know how I missed that there is weekly live music and dancing here. I will be visiting more frequently now.
Really cool living history museum. I loved talking to the people there about how things were in the region.
Also got a few good tips on local restaurants.
Happy little accident we stumbled onto. Highly recommend for culture and history fans
I love to go watch the dancing and walk around the old homes it's so refreshing the beautiful style that is lost in our homes today.
This can be a little hard to find but well worth the effort because there are so many neat things to do. The replica buildings restaurant and shops are all fun.
It's a great little village, and the performance center is wonderful--as is the sound crew.
We bring all of our family and visitors here for a meal and to exploring the village.
A great way to get out of the house and learn about the local settlers. I love the interactivity with the experts and artisans in the various houses.
Great learning experience about the Acadian culture. The staff dress in period costumes and take their characters very seriously. Enjoyed the day.
You can understand the history and culture of this change. I have seen similar things in other places, so I didn't go in and visit. A cultural center nearby is also very detailed. There is also a half-hour free movie appreciation.
A villa of 1790 very well preserved, I liked that as you go entering the different spaces there are people disguised from the time who are explaining the history of the place
