My oldest daughter who is 3 had a blast here when we walked around the village. Some of the attractions (such as the science section) are interactive just for kids. They do weddings & special occasion events. They also offer tours in English & french for tourist/school visits (The plaques are written in both language's as well if I remember right). Within the Vermillionville village they have a restaurant. The food served here definitely hits home if looking for comfort food. If anyone is coming through Louisiana and ends up going through Lafayette, this place is not only a great place to stretch the legs, but also get a bite to eat by getting a true taste of the Cajun cuisine.

Awesome place to learn about the history of Lafayette and Louisiana. In particular the Creole history of the area. Cooking demonstrations that are held periodically are really good and the food is awesome. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Relaxing experience, very informative. Took the whole family, and we enjoyed ourselves so much. The young lady at the entrance was so nice, and the artisans/historians inside were so nice and took a real interest in teaching you about the Louisiana culture. I recommend it!

Collection of homes, school, church, and forge from late 1700 to 1900. They have people in nearly every house. Small nature/weather museum. Really neat and nicely maintained. Small ferry for people to use themselves.oops. almost forgot. Also a very friendly donkey...the sheep think their to good to be petted.

This place is certainly interesting but it could be much better. The setup is nice and there is quite a lot of things to do. A full visit will take at least 2-3 hours.
It could be much more... if you find the artisans. They spend more time at lunch break or smoke break than entertaining you. Because they are so organized they all go at the same time.
Beware too that the French translations are provided courtesy of a random internet translator. What was certainly a good initiative turns to a complete non sense and an insult to French language.

This is a perfect family place, but you do not need kids to have a reason to go. Just go!We started off our tour in the beautiful, restored barn. There was a fantastic zydeco band playing music and the wood dance floor held some really impressive dancers. The tour of the homes, black smithery, and gardens were like taking a step back in time. There's even a cute ferry that you can "hand pull" with a rope across Petit Bayou. The whole family got a kick out of that.I highly recommend Vermilionville as it was one of the high points of our great trip to Lafayette.

Although I have gone to a few events here, I usually only take the full Vermilionville tour when a friend comes into town. But each time I do, I learn something new. It's such a great, historical place, and no matter if you live in town or not, it's definitely worth a visit. The workers are fun to chat with and learn from, and the grounds are beautiful. They also host Cajun jams, workshops, lectures and films, and have a restaurant. Good times.

We didn't take the boat tour, but I loved walking through the village, seeing the artifacts, and talking to the artisans spinning and weaving, etc. There are knowledgeable staff and interesting presentations on the history of the area.

We don't think about what life was like when metal items had to be forged and we washed close in a bucket and was a process. Each person contributed to society. This time capsule town is a great visiting place to unplug and be reminded of that time. I don't know how I missed that there is weekly live music and dancing here. I will be visiting more frequently now.

You can understand the history and culture of this change. I have seen similar things in other places, so I didn't go in and visit. A cultural center nearby is also very detailed. There is also a half-hour free movie appreciation.
