The Joffrey Ballet

Attended the Joffrey Ballet School Auditions yesterday in Toronto. The staff was well organized and friendly. My daughter loved every minute of it. Thank you for a great experience. Hopefully we will be able to make it out this summer to your program.

Wonderful ballet classes and performances! The classes are challenging and the faculty are phenomenal! The performances by the company are truly breathtaking!

I saw Swan Lake performed by Joffery at the Auditorium, great performance. Now, I m not knocking the the show, please go see it or their other shows. My issue is with their marketing. WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME AT 8:20 AT NIGHT CONSTANTLY? Do you have any respect? I am not interested in a yearly subscription! Can t you take a hint? I am soooo mad, that I would rather buy a plane ticket to Russia to watch ballet than to see another Joffery performance! And all thanks to the Joffery marketing team. I work hard for my family, and waking me during the little rest I can get will not bring back a customer!

So Joffrey took artistic liberty with the Nutcracker. They turned a classic ballet into a more meaningful story. The ballet is told so much better. The story made me cry. The music, set design, and dancing were equally the stars and they made each better. The music and dancing were so seamless, the set, OMG! I've never seen so much creativity, so much talent. It was my FAVORITE nutcracker, and I've seen alot! Congratulations Joffrey, Bravo!

I purchased tickets for a performance at the Joffrey, but unfortunately I was unable to attend on that particular date. I reached out to the Joffrey via phone and email, requesting that my tickets be transferred to another performance date. Fernando promptly responded to my phone call AND email, and he was able to help me make the requested changes. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your flexibility, and I will DEFINITELY be coming back for another performance. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Terrific! Everything was just perfect from the beginning till the end. My husband, I and our friends attended Anna Karenina Ballet. It was just perfect. The concert hall was pretty, decorations and stuff were amazing. The dancers, orchestra and the opera singer were just top notch. Tickets were worth the price. Two hours plus intermission flew in a heart beat. Strongly recommend!

Whenever I'm in Chicago, I try to catch as many ballet classes as I can at the Joffrey.

Excellent instruction, an accessible location, and a sense of camaraderie and welcome are coupled with an extensive array of classes for adult dancers from the completely uninitiated through the most seasoned.

Expect a challenging class that will also give you a sound workout; wear or bring clothes appropriate to your class (details are provided on the website; locker rooms area available) and bring a water bottle.

After class, you'll find any number of places to eat or amuse yourself, and if you're completely exhausted, trains and busses are nearby to take you back to your home base for a hot bath and a nap.

Our family watched the Nutcracker. The portions of the ballet prior to the intermission did not look like a ballet. The sexond half was much bettet

This is where my entire dance career started a few years ago. The staff is friendly and you learn a lot when you go to take classes here.

I took adult basic ballet classes. Registering and paying for class is easy; they accept a number of payment methods. The women who work at the desk are friendly.

The studio spaces are modern with large windows. The sprung floors are covered with marley. Some classes feature live pianists, others use recorded music. (This is denoted on the adult class schedule.) The wall-mounted bars are wooden. Portable bars, typically in the center of the room, are metal.

The intensity of the class is not consistent; this depends on the teacher. The teachers regularly scheduled for adult classes and the teachers who substitute for adult classes vary in method and difficulty, even for "basic" class.

LA adheres most closely to "basic." She explains positions and moves for new students with no ballet experience. She asks new students to identify themselves so she can adjust their place in class, to make it easier for the new students to follow along.

KR teaches a more difficult "basic." She may briefly ask if there is anyone new, but she runs through her class at a brisk pace and does not stop for explanations. Her class tends to involves more stretching, warm-ups prior to center work, and extended adagio center work.

The woman's dressing room rarely has lockers available, but you are permitted to bring your things into the studio and set them in the front. The facilities are clean and tidy, bathroom and dressing room included.

I was truly disappointed in this remake of the Nutcracker. I have seen the Nutcracker 7 times, 4 times with the Joffrey Ballet Co. This was the very 1st time I was ever disappointed. The costuming was substandard. The ballet was slow and out of sync and unremarkable in every way. The set was bland, and you never knew when you could applaud.. the audience would attempt to applaud but the timing never was right. It just didn't work.

My wife loved seeing the students practice being a ballet dancer herself when she was younger. Beautiful building.

Great people and my kids enjoy both the male and female classes.

The Joffery came to Reno, NV a few years ago. I thought I was going to see a local ballet. I was stunned to learn I had front row table seats to the Joffery. To sum: if I get a memory-loss disease we all are afraid of, the last memory I will forget will be that night with the Joffery Ballet. My jaw, my face, would embarrass myself were I to see a picture of it that night

My son, attended their summer intensive for 2018 and he loved it. He was given the full scholarship. I am so proud of him. I am very ecstatic and a very proud mom. I want to extend my sincerest thanks to Joffrey Ballet for giving my son the opportunity to train with the best. We are beyond grateful. Lessons here are with the very best. No tutus, just fundamentals.

My granddaughter loves this place. She is always energized after a session.

I went here for the Nutcracker Suite play with a friend of mine. It was not the full version of the play, but i still loved going there. They allowed us to take pictures with the Sugarplum Fairy character and the Nutcracker character. It was during Christmas season so they had a Christmas tree as well. It's a super small theatre area we went to since it was not the full play. I still loved the play and the ballet was done beautifully! They have a wait area since they don't open the doors until 530pm.

Love Joffrey. Best dance company in America in my opinion. Great repertoire, world class dancers, a beautiful facility and an amazing group of people supporting them behind the scenes. Fabulous academy to boot. Really the best dance company in the Midwest and arguably US. No one compares.

I went to see a dance performance by Harold Washington college students. The performance was held at the Joffrey theater.

This review is about the performance of the Joffery Ballet company at the Auditorium Theatre: A visual delight! This historic theater is what all theaters should wish to be. It is a must see. Designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler it opened Dec 1889. The goal was to create a people's theater open to all Chicagoans and to grab the attention in the bid to host the 1893 World's Fair.
It is such a delight that the Joffery Ballet (Chicago) performes the "Making a new American Ballet" which is all about the Chicago World Fair and a poor immagrant family and widow mother as a sculptoress who is making a world's fair sculpture. The immagrants are all dressed in brown tones and at the holiday party scene when the Great Impresario and apprentice appear bearing gifts and brightly colored. The dynamic of dance, costume and music delight all! The music is still traditional nutcracker and the story follows the basic story line of nutcracker with a few twists such as Buffalo Bills Wild West Show and Dragons! Just know when you go to this theater the Nutcracker story has changed. Sit back and do enjoy and do new twist to an old holiday story. Enjoy the setting of the theater which just continues the story itself as it is played out on stage by this highly skilled perfect technique dancers.

I have been going to the Joffrey Ballet for a few years now; every Christmas season, I see The Nutcracker. Every time I have seen it, it was an incredible performance. Also, the opportunity for college students to see plays at a discounted rate allows us to experience the arts more often. The theater itself is quite beautiful.

I found the Joffrey Ballet from a Groupon for 3 shows and now I'm hooked. I've seen everything from classic Nutcrackers to more modern dance pieces. It's an amazing show no matter what you are seeing. The building in itself is a piece of artwork and I love going to all of their shows. It's a great time if you love and enjoy dance!

The Joffrey Ballet's Nutcracker was a complete disappointment!
Mediocre performance, primitive costumes, PowerPoint like backdrops.
The most disappointing was a new concept. The Nutcracker, a beautiful fairytale many-many generations of children of the world grew up with, from the beginning was crudely converted to the socially correct and Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist like environment. Absolutely ridiculous idea to tight The Nutcracker with The World's Columbian Exposition (also known as the Chicago World's Fair) which was a world's fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World. It feels like an infomercial for the Chicago Office of Tourism (no offense). The tasteless substitution of the Tchaikovsky's Russian Dance with a cheap western saloon dancers and cowboy lasso-guns bang bangs demo performed on a Russian motive, left me speechless.
Dear creatives, please don't ruin the genius magic created by Tchaikovsky an Marius Petipa! Just come up with your own original ideas.

Went there for free community engagment classes when I was younger and the staff there where great. They were very welcoming the stuios are very clean and neat. Easy to find as well as they bo by letters. They have vending machines for parents thst are wating for their kids as well as chairs in the reception areas. They also have a sofa in the entrace for parents or other joffrey people like students and adult people taking classes.

My daughter loves training at Joffrey! She doesn't want to go anywhere else. She loves her instructors. She has been taking ballet lessons here for 4 years and children's jazz lessons for 2 years. Joffrey truly prepares students to become professional dancers. I also love that Joffrey offers a variety of dance and exercise classes for adults on a drop in basis that is reasonably priced.

The Joffrey Ballet offers great performances throughout the year. Since they are students, the tickets aren't as expensive as professional companies, but the students do an amazing job. They also offer weekend classes for anyone to go to, at all levels. It was an amazing experience to study under some of the best instructors in the world - even if it was only for a weekend.

My boyfriend and I have made a tradition of seeing the Nutcracker every year. The performances are outstanding.

This place is amazing, as I send my little girl, there for ballet. The instructors a really great with my liittle princess. I recommend this place to everyone.

My daughter has been taking ballet at the academy for a few years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else! The instructors are amazing and the rehearsal studios are BEAUTIFUL...you can't find a better dance academy.

This place is not a Dance academy! Do not believe the lies! This is secretly a division of the USA Government and it trains spies imported from russia!
I know 2 of them personally, yakov and the kitty kat. I HATE this place, i almost died on a reconnasaice mission. Nice architecture, 2 stars.

It's places like the Joffrey Ballet that make Chicago a unique hub of culture. I was lucky enough to see their production of Eclectica; two seats for under $100! Performance took place at the amazing Auditorium Theatre, a hidden gem of Chicago architecture in itself! Keep an eye on Groupon for some great deals for Joffrey!

The facility is great, with beautiful ballet rooms in the middle of downtown Chicago. The teachers are very professional and friendly. My daughter is taking classes there and we are happy with them, can t say anything bad. The only thing I wish was different there - is to add an option of a more intense program for younger students. As taking a 45 min ballet class once a week, seems to be a very slow progression. Young ballet students of my daughter s age in Russia are taking a 1.5-2 hour ballet class at least 2-3 times a week.

I came here once last year for a free open beginners ballet session. It was so much fun, lots of people attended and our instructor was nice and helpful. We all met in a medium sized studio until our instructor came and moved us to a larger studio that fit more people. I was so excited to find out that the studio we moved to was the studio where the professional dancers practice! This was quite the experience. Huge windows over looking downtown Chicago, very nice.
