Texas French Bread

Got purchase wrong, food slow to be served, nut bread old. Overrated.

You won't find better scones. Good breads, too. Warm, welcoming, old-school place to take a date for lunch. Also, if you have a party or other celebration, and you call ahead, they will deliver if it's a large-ish order.

I went for brunch on a Sunday with the family and found the place a bit noisy from all the talking when we first arrived but after sitting down it didn t bother me at all. I had some French toast, soup, coffee, and a mimosa!

It is still TFB, but nice wine list, beers and an array of food for every taste.

If you want mustard on your sandwich better bring your own - all they have is honey mustard. It tasted a little odd on my BLT.

Edit: Dijon would have been lovely! I'll make sure to specify next time.

Great food with a relaxing setup, great for grabbing a late brunch with the family.

The baked goods -- my favorite are the ciabatta and bagels-- are excellent. However lunch here is all but average and the dinner, in spite of the relaxed atmosphere, the simple approach to food made with locally sourced sustainable food, is very underwhelming. Texas French Bread has yet to reach the the consistent quality for its dining experience that it has attained with its bread. The daily menu is really hit or miss. Most things I have had there are very memorable: from a very beautiful simple salad of figs, prosciutto, hot mustard greens with a drizzle of wild honey or a roasted garlic braised cauliflower soup to a tough and oily pork milanese (their knives could not cut through it) with a poorly prepared radicchio salad or excessively mushy and poorly cut tagliatelle with a weak and muted basil pesto. Although I often leave very unsatisfied (especially given that the experience does not justify the prize) I will occasionally revisit them for their endless bread, friendly staff and down to earth, even if often confused, approach to food.

A little bakery/cafe located near UT campus. I came here during lunch and thought the sandwiches were nothing extraordinary. It's a very family-friendly location, though. Great place for a coffee/tea and dessert.

Delicious pastries and bread! They currently have some grocery items not easily available at the stores. Easy pickup at their window or order ahead for contactless pickup.

Been waiting for over an hour to be seated for a party of 3. There are 9 opened tables and no one is being seated!!!!

As a former employee of TFB, I'll say this for them. What they do right they excel at. Great espresso, great bread. Their food is high quality. They make a walnut and currant bread that will knock you off your feet. What they do badly is service, and I can say that because I was a baker there for two years. I can only blame management for the uneven --sometimes wonderful, sometimes breathtakingly rude -- service I've received. Don't get mad bc I only ordered the salad. Ask me if my coffee is to go. Quit assuming. Don't offer coffee during dinner service and then get mad when customers take you up on it. If I pay $5 for a cappuccino, you can bet I want it in a ceramic mug. This last example happens all the time.

By the way, some of this behavior is from the guy who's the manager, not some underpaid student.

I'd love to see them stick around for another twenty years. It's such a beautiful little place to have a cup of coffee. I just wish that I knew what I was stepping into when I walk through the door. It's an adventure, and not in the good way.

Repeat offender identified! Every time I have been here I have had a great experience. The eggs Benedict is killer. It s on fresh fluffy white bread that is hard to cut through but worth the effort once you get the bite. Worth. The. Work. Stay away from the front counter filled with baked goods too if you value your current clothing size. Lots of healthy options on the menu. Truly an Austin staple.

I love the menu, yes it is a bit overpriced but they make up for it in quality. A great spot for a couple's weekend brunch. Go here with your lover or alone- both experiences will be relaxing and fun. Between the two of us, we got two orders of their French Toast and one order of Egg Tostada. And I got a nicely made Cortado. All the brunch items I mentioned are a MUST have. Next day we went, I tried their lunch menu which was very average. So stick with breakfast/brunch menu. I will be returning but I really hope they step up their service. Once the staff had served us our meal, they did not once come back to check on us, not for refilling my coffee or to ask if we needed anything else and that was HIGHLY annoying cause I kept having to look over my shoulder to get their attention. Please train your staff to be a bit more attentive.

Texas French Bread has outdoor seating at a very pleasant patio across the parking lot from the main building. Also a beautiful place for special events.

This restaurant is a must for locals and visitors......it is one of the best in Austin.
But don't tell everyone.

It doesn t get much better than this. Amazing baked goods, chill authentic austin atmosphere, and Fantastic service. An Austin institution that just gets better and better.

I stopped in today to get an apple galette and interacted with two of the nicest people ever at the counter... Annie and her coworker made my day!

A star for ambiance, another star for the bread and a decent croissant. The cappuccino I received was not good (very little foam). The cantaloupe had a faint taste of lox. So no stars for value/quality there. Unfortunately, the service was also subpar. I asked a couple of questions about the pastry offerings behind the counter (if there is a menu describing the selection, it was not offered to me) and the person behind the counter was not very helpful. After having tried a loaf of bread from here before, I thought the restaurant experience would be much better.

Oh how I love this place. All the food is great - soups, salads, sandwiches and baked goods, all amazing. I love the decor. Big open, white space, with huge windows and orange accents. Highly recommend this sweet cafe.

Went for Sunday brunch. Food was good, service was friendly, but it was pricey for what we got, and an extremely noisy atmosphere. We had to shout at each other to talk. We would only go back at really slow times.

I love this place! All the food is amazing and it's super cute inside.

Five of us went for weekend brunch. Everyone thought it was ok. Pancakes are very thick. So is French toast. No one was unhappy, but no one said "we need to do this again.

Over-hyped place imo. It was pricey and the portions were small - two things I never want to see at a breakfast place! Small egg and spinach omelette with a side of potato wedges was $12 and very basic. Also the waiter was dropping stuff and brought me the wrong coffee. Also the AC was dripping on me. I know I'm just complaining now but honestly people it's not worth the wait.

My husband and I visited this place last night. He ordered the fried chicken with slaw and the fried chicken was severely over cooked and came out late. I ordered the tagliatelle with shrimp which was very watery and bland. My husband s meal was not worth $22 or should I say $28 because they overcharged us. My meal was $20, and was not worth the money either. On top of that, the manager chose to speak to every table around us but did not take the time to ask us how we were or how our food tasted. I would never recommend this restaraunt. I wanted to like it, but it left a sour taste in our mouths.

Their bread was a bit hard, although their chicken was well seasoned it was also raw on the inside. The ambviance was nice. My server was a bright young gentleman and he was veey fast and kind. We were served and seated quickly. It was also a but expensive though if you are older or on a date I am sure this would be fine for you.

Just went to TX French Bread after the remodel and new menu. Very disappointed. It is no longer the good Austin place it was. I paid $15 for coffee and a thin, somewhat burned BLT. My friend paid $7 for coffee and a muffin. Way too expensive for a meal you could get for about half elsewhere. I have loved this place for years but not now.

Very Austin cafe. My biggest two issues are it is very LOUD and quite pricey. $5 for just a side of eggs much less $16 breakfast. In my opinion a very menu. I love keeping Austin weird but I won't be back.

This restaurant is my favorite. I eat in a lot of restaurants but to this place I go the most. The team is very attentive and the cuisine they cook is so appetizing. I would always prefer to have a good dinner here. I highly recommend this place.

Breakfast in zen mode. The outdoor setting makes for a relaxing morning. Great breakfast. They only lost a star because they were a little shy with their bacon portion but that s coming from someone that could eat a pound of it in one sitting!

Great pancakes. Service was not exactly speedy, but it's a nice place to relax, enjoy a coffee or iced tea and relax.

After enjoying a great breakfast at TFB last Sunday, we returned with friends on Thursday evening for a delicious dinner. The setting is so lovely, service is excellent - our waiter was very attentive. We will return! It's so nice to see our local restaurants working hard to continue doing business and making customers feel safe along with having an enjoyable (normal) evening.

Really impressed! The food was really good. Our eggs were cooked beautifully, and the toast was awesome. The espresso was ok, definitely better than a lot of breakfast places.

However, they certainly have a serving issue. I saw many people complain about slow service, and they even forgot my friends coffee.

I understand there are rushes, but they're easily predictable, so I would assume you'd have more people on hand to take care of it.

Furthermore, I feel that there should be a more streamlined system for orders. It doesn't make sense to have so many orders be forgotten.

Overall, I thought the food was very good, but there are just a few issues with serving efficiency!

I'm a big fan of Texas French Bread, and I go here relatively often, living right down the street from it. It's BYOB with a small corking fee, so it's nice having your own selection. The food and coffee are both very good. I've never been here for lunch, so I can only speak on the dinner, but the atmosphere is excellent.

The food used to be reasonably priced and taste good but now the food is absurdly expensive and the quality is worse

Yes, their food is delicious. The only gripe I have is that they are charging an additional 20% gratuity fee for their service, not for groups of ten or more at a table. The tip should be given by the customer if the table service was excellent and satisfactory, not for standing on the takeout line. Does McDonalds charge a tip fee for ordering chicken mcnuggets? I know these are hard times for restaurants, but for a restaurant that charges 2-3 times more for their food --yes, the food is made from scratch--tipping should be determined by the customer. The restaurant does claim on a handwritten carboard sign, but it would be better to ask the customer if they would like to donate or add a tip for their employees. Again, a customer's choice. Awkward!

Really lovely space, friendly staff. Best macchiato I've had in Austin, hands down. The toast with jam was heavenly. There's also free wifi.

One of my favorite places to grab a muffin, sandwich or a coffee (they do great hearts). I love the atmosphere. They are a bit pricey, but the food is really good and seems fresh!

TFB was just ok for dinner. I had a really good pasta with homemade noodles and a very good meat sauce. The rest of the meals weren't as good and no one was very impressed. I'd give it another try for lunch, but I'd have to be swayed to go back for dinner unless I planned on getting that exact dish again. I know, not exactly a typical 4-star review, but I did like my food enough to bring the stars up.

Make no mistake, this is a real breakfast joint with great coffee and espresso run by the hippest of the hipsters. The service is great but come early unless you like to wait.

I don't like it as much as I wanted to. It seemed overpriced for what it was. I like the local sourcing, and want to like the food more. I just didn't. I tried twice.

Excellent! Food was fantastic. Staff was helpful and nice. Parking is difficult especially around peak times. I recommend the Challah French test.

Super chic place serving wonderful breakfast food; thick cut bacon and challah French toast. Staff was super helpful to a first timer and offered suggestions. Definitely good food, but a bit pricey. Gotta pay for quality.

Amazing spot in a cool brick and wood building. I went here every day of my trip for breakfast once I tried their cappuccino which is exceptional. Te best breakfasts I tried were the breakfast tostada and the avocado toast which I had on the rye sourdough. A+++++

A nice little Bakery we found by driving by. They bake their bread daily and their cakes and sausage wraps etc. are fresh. My wife love the atmosphere because it reminds her of a French cafe.

Me and my wife came here after she worked a 16 hour shift and it was absolutely delightful. We came for brunch on Sunday, had mimosas, and deliciously simple breakfast that was perfect. Potatoes well seasoned and cooked. Perfect eggs, and thick cut bacon both soft and crispy. The Challah French toast was fluffy and delicious. If you need a brunch spot for simple American breakfast look no further. With a full coffee bar and excellent selection of menu items you won t be disappointed.

Get there early if you want full selection. Check your takeout order because they mess it up. Pastries are good.

The food was good I would say better than your average diner breakfast. The reason for the 3 stars is because the cost was insane. I paid $42 for two plates of breakfast you see in the pictures and an orange juice. Nothing out of the ordinary for such a expensive experience.

This is an Austin place. The food is great and the service is nice, but a little weird. The building is something... and really gives the impression of being in an old bakery.

I have never been disappointed in the food; it is always great. It can be pricey, but so is everything else in that part of town.

Go eat, enjoy a walk around campus and grab a cup of coffee on the drag... That is a Saturday afternoon... I have kids now, so this never happens. Maybe one day I can show them too!

My goodness, the food here is delicious - carefully considered and interesting flavors. Of course a little pricey, so it's best for a special night out. The servers were really nice and easy to talk to. We even received complimentary baked goods on our way out. You can bring your own drink of choice, which is neat. The atmosphere was homey, clean and beautiful. We loved everything we ordered.

Everything is fantastic here, from the pastries & coffee to the bread (naturally). Everything is pristine & fresh, and the service is great. Also, great atmosphere for dining in (patio area in back is great!).

This place is nothing short of amazing! The folks who manage/own this place are so kind and the bread is really fresh! Highly recommend the breakfast too!

We waited around 40 minutes on a Saturday which was expected. Maybe our hopes were too high, because of the reviews. We waited another 30 minutes for the food, it looked good .... but it tasted meh. Omelet was cold and flavorless, potatoes were good though. Latte was good as well. In my opinion it wasn t worth the wait nor the $45 brunch for two.

The decor is relaxing, leaning towards romantic. This establishment nicely bridges the gap between laid-back bakery and elegant place to take someone special for a nice glass of wine. Staff is cordial. Oh yeah, and the food is great!

Beautiful day outside... so after lunch we spent the afternoon drinking 1 beer per hour. After 3 hours they cut us off...

No excuse given other than "we don't feel comfortable serving you beer that long". Regardless of how few we had.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience and will definitely be coming back. We spoke with Carlos about different wines they serve and his impressive background of being a wine sommelier. After we had our wine and entree, one of the chefs came out and asked how our meal was. 10/10 one of the best meals I have ever had.

Finally, a restaurant that serves moist and fluffy scrambled eggs. The almond croissant and coffee amazing also.
