Skinner Vineyards

Sitting in the Sacramento airport, at Vino Volo, drinking a Skinner GSM -a 2012 "1861". A little hot at 14.8, but really yummy. Will need to pay them a visit when I get back.

Excellent place to to enjoy the Region's finest wines and spectacular views. This is definitely a must visit location. The staff from Stephanie to Nancy are some of the best in the business Diane will always serve with a smile. You will not be disappointed enjoy your wine tasting on a beautiful elegant back patio. It's always helpful to call in advance if you're with a group. Tell them Danny from Platinum Limousine LLC recommended this as a must-stop destination!

Maybe we hit a bad day or time but visiting Skinner Winery was not a good experience for us. The views are wonderful but from there it went downhill. We were six of us with two of our group being members of their wine club. We reserved a table for tasting and a light lunch. When we arrived the only tables available were in the sun and we were ask not to move the umbrellas. After a while we went down to the lower deck in the shade. We were given glasses and the pouring started. There were two flights listed on the menu but we were not given a choice as to which one we wanted. There as no explanation as to the details of the wine and no water was offered. We started to open our snacks but were told that we were not allowed to bring our own food. I'm not sure if this was for the lower deck only or both decks. We were very politely told too bad, no outside food. We decided to leave before completing the flight so we packed up the car and started to drive out. The server was standing at the entrance waving us down. She told us us we didn't pay so we told her, again, that we were with wine club members. She said okay but we still owe her for two tastings. After a very short discussion she said she would waive the fee.

Skinner Vineyards' wines are outstanding. The view from the outside tasting area is breathtaking. This is a place everyone who enjoys wine and gorgeous vistas of the Sierra Nevada Mountains should visit and taste the wines. The staff was kind, thoughtful, pleasant and informed without being intrusive. It made for a beautiful experience.

Beutiful setting, the land and landscaping is fantastic. Very nice facilithy and grounds and excellent staff. The wines are decent and complex. Very enjoyable experience.

Skinner's wine is a bit more pricey than the rest in the area, but you will not meet a better group of folks with a great atmosphere and possibly the best view around...with some really good wines. One hint: if the 1864 is available, BUY IT! They were out the last time i was there. It's a marvelous wine.

We love Skinner! The wines are fantastic, the view is spectacular, and the staff are wonderful.

We ve been wine members here for at least 5 years. Went there today, service was horrible. Server made us feel unwelcome, didn t serve us our tasting and refused to turn heaters on. We finally left after 45 minutes and only one tasting poured. Their wine is overpriced which is not worth it if they treat customers poorly too.

Fantastic wine, great location, oh and let me talk about Stephanie. Stephanie is the greatest. Host. Ever. If you theoretically "lose" your "wallet" in their "vinyard" she will find it. She will save it. And she will bring it to you. Um... Theoretically.

Great wine and quite possibly the best views of any vineyard I've visited. Perfect place to sit back, drink some wine, eat some cheese, and enjoy the great weather (hopefully).

I made a reservation for Skinner Vineyards online about 3 days before we were to visit. As we drove up we were so excited because it was so beautiful, but the view is where the goodness stops. We walked up and I should have known what we are in for? "You don't have a reservation!" I was shocked and was said, "uh yes, we do." She (I don't remember her name) didn't even ask my name just started in about how we didn't and it wasn't on her calendar and then it was "oh you must be Bree. It just showed up.". Um, okay? She was snappy with the guy Scott that walked up and then started walking us to our table. The table was in the shade and so we asked if we could move to a table in the sun on the grass. SHE ROLLED HER EYES. Then Scott says, 'Well I just won't give you the same level of service over there. We just sit families there." Excuse me??? Where I sit depends on my level of service? Yikes. It just got worse from there. He would walk over carafes of wine for each one we were tasting, tell it what wine it was and leave. No explanation of the wine. We had to pour it ourselves. Finally, it was time to leave. I couldn't wait. I had no plans of buying anything because of the treatment we have been given but one friend decided to. But at this point, they were done talking with us. So I had to actually walk up to her and say, "We would like to purchase a bottle" and it was another dirty look for interrupting her chatting with the coworkers. Scott came over and got the wine order. There were 4 of us and you pay for shipping so the one friend got hers waived. My aunt then handed Scott $40 (in case you aren't keeping track we owed $30). Scott looks at her dead on and says "You don't want change do you?" Are you KIDDING ME? You treated us like dirt, you were annoyed that we wanted to sit in the sun, you didn't bother to barely speak to us and YOU WANT A TIP. Uh, no. I have never in my life had such a bad experience at a winery and we visited 3 others that day that were AMAZING (hit Shadow Ranch and Medieros Winery - they were awesome). In this time I'm all for supporting small, local businesses. I will go out of my way to do so. That being said, I don't think I'm asking too much for BASIC serving courtesy.

This is the place I visit on every drive through El Dorado Wine country. The tasting room is on top of a hill, and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains. If they have Dry Diggings, try it out; it's a great blend, but some years were sold out ... Also, it's a bit more expensive than the surrounding wineries, both for bottles and the tasting; but you get a free wine glass.

Good selection of wines, nice people and one of the most beautiful tasting rooms I have been in. The outside area is spectacular with a view that is gorgeous. Love this place. I'll add photos next trip but you should see it for yourself.
